Online MLB Betting Action - Philadelphia Phillies at Texas Rangers
by Eric Williams
The Philadelphia Phillies, (43-37, 36-44 RL) are in the midst of their biggest struggles of the 2008 MLB regular season and are coming off a dismal 5-0 loss to the Oakland A’s that I predicted almost dead-on in the BetUS Locker Room on Thursday.
While the Phillies have dropped eight of their last ten games in the BetUS Sportsbook, the Texas Rangers, (40-40, 44-36 RL) have managed to go a respectable 5-5 in their last ten games despite losing two of three to the lowly Houston Astros, including Thursday’s 7-2 road loss.
Both teams will try to get back in the win column tonight for the BetUS MLB online sports wagering community, though both clubs are having trouble pushing runs across the board lately.
The Phillies have scored a total of 15 runs in their last eight games while the Rangers have scored just eight runs in their last three games.
"We just have to keep playing," Phillies center fielder Shane Victorino told the team's official Web site. "We're not going to give up. We're in one of those things right now. As bad as we're doing, we're still in first place. We'll take that."
The Phillies will have a tough time winning if tonight’s starting pitcher, Brett Myers, (3-9, 5.51 ERA) can’t get his act together. Myers is 0-6 in eight road starts this year with a 7.54 ERA during the span. Myers has also allowed a major league-leading 23 homers and was taken deep three times last Saturday as he allowed four runs in 7 2/3 innings of Philadelphia’s 6-2 loss to the Los Angeles Angels.
The Rangers will counter with left-hander Kason Gabbard (2-3, 4.96) who picked up his first win since his season debut on April 4 by limiting the Washington Nationals to three runs in 5 2/3 innings of the Rangers’ 13-3 rout on Saturday.
Gabbard is 2-2 with a 6.00 ERA in four career interleague starts.
Here is a look at tonight’s key online sports wagering trends followed by my analysis and MLB online betting Free Picks.
The Phillies are 7-19 in Myers' last 26 starts on grass.
The Phillies are 7-20 in Myers' last 27 starts as a favorite.
The Rangers are 4-0 in Gabbard’s last four starts with five days of rest.
The Rangers are 5-0 in Gabbards’ last five home starts with the total set at 9.0-10.5.
The Under is 5-1 in Myers' last six starts as a favorite of -110 to -150.
The Under is 4-0 in Gabbard’s last four starts as a home favorite.
Analysis: With two absolutely mediocre starting pitchers taking the mound tonight, I’m going to roll with the better offensive team – the Philadelphia Phillies, though BetUS MLB online bettors should likely take the ‘Over.’
