Online Golf Betting - Lefty leads Tour to Charlotte
By BetUS Staff
The PGA Tour won’t have the injured Tiger Woods in the field once again this week, but at least Phil Mickelson will be back in online betting golf action. And those who are looking to do some golf betting this week will probably have already noted that Lefty has been pegged as the +900 fave to get the trophy on Sunday in the Wachovia Championship at Quail Hollow.
Mickelson shot a two-under 70 in last year’s Wachovia Championship to end up behind Woods and Steve Stricker in third place on the leaderboard. Mickelson last played at The Masters, where he finished in a tie for fifth place. His best result of the year came in the Northern Trust Open back in the middle of February when he picked up the victory.
Steve Stricker finished two strokes behind Woods in second spot in last year’s Wachovia Championship, and he’s listed at +2500 odds to get the win in North Carolina this weekend. Stricker missed the cut at The Masters (his last event), and his best result so far this season came in the Mercedes-Benz Championship (second) back in January.
Adam Scott edged Ryan Moore in a playoff last weekend to win the Byron Nelson Championship in Texas, and he’s at +1200 odds to win back-to-back tournaments. That victory moved Scott up to fifth in the current World Golf Ranking (behind Woods, Mickelson, Ernie Els, and Stricker), but it was only his second Top-10 result of the year.
Jim Furyk and Vijay Singh are both pegged at +1400 odds to win this week, and they’re both also defending champions at this event (Furyk in 2006, Singh in 2005). Furyk floundered in last year’s Wachovia Championship, shooting a second-round 79 to miss the cut. Singh had a much better tournament, as he ended up in a tie for seventh place.
Other golfers with top odds to win in North Carolina this week include Geoff Ogilvy (+1600), Stewart Cink (+2500), Aaron Baddeley (+3300), and Sergio Garcia (+3300). Trevor Immelman, Justin Rose, and Luke Donald are all pegged at +3500 odds, with Boo Weekley at +4000, and both Anthony Kim and Rory Sabbatini (who tied for third last year) at +4500. David Toms, the ’03 Wachovia champ, is well down at +8500 odds.
Overseas the European Tour will hit the Real Club de Golf in Seville, Spain this week for the Open de Espana. South African Charl Schwartzel won this event last year, and he’s been pegged as the +1200 co-favorite to turn that trick again this week. Swede Niclas Fasth, who took the trophy in this event in 2006, is also listed at only +1200 odds.
Johan Edfors and Miguel Angel Jimenez are both behind the leaders at +1800 odds to win this week, with Alastair Forsyth at +2200, and each of Paul McGinley, Alexander Noren, and Darren Clarke at +2500. Clarke is coming off a victory last weekend in the BMW Asian Open in Shanghai; he beat Robert-Jan Derksen by one stroke in the event.
Derksen, Simon Dyson, and Colin Montgomerie are all listed at +2800 odds to win the Open de Espana. Other contenders and their odds for this week include Gonzalo F-Castano (+3000), Gregory Bourdy (+3300), Ricardo Gonzalez (+3300), Steve Webster (+3500), and Thomas Levet (+3500). 2005 tourney champ Peter Hanson is at +4000.
The European Tour will stage the Italian Open at Castello di Tolcinasco Golf & Country Club in Milan next week, while the PGA Tour will be offering up the prestigious PLAYERS Championship at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. The next major tourney on the schedule is the U.S. Open, which takes place from June 12 to 15.
