Bet on Horse Racing Trends – In it to Win it
By Brian Mulligan
It may sound like over simplification, but if you are not in it to win it, and we are talking about horse racing, then you should find a new hobby.
This game is just too darn tough to take casually and non-serious horse bettors can expect to being in the red when the lights go out if they don’t buckle down and play with conviction.
Cagey horse bettors have a plan and they have a starting point and that is to find an edge over the competitors, the other bettors.
The way to get that edge is to not only select winning horses, but also select winning ways to wager and invents ways to get the most bang for your buck.
Nobody in the game wins every race. The beauty of the game is that you don’t have to. You just have to make the kind of winning wagers so that value will be there and when you do win, you will make a substantial gain and not just eek out a small success.
The most successful horse bettors in this game know it is not a mystery. There is too much money involved for most outfits to tinker with shenanigans to get by. The best horse bettors win by using common sense, a good betting strategy, being able to manage money with a legit bankroll and the ability to not get shaken up if a losing streak rears its ugly head.
Sharp bettors know that you can’t consistently bet favorites and survive. It’s just not the nature of the game. But that doesn’t mean you have to bet AGAINST every chalk.
Quite the opposite. The best bettors use logical horses and surround them with one or two outsiders that have great hidden upside.
Just like ballplayers, horse bettors have to know the good, the bad and the ugly about their wagering patterns.
A guy in the NBA knows if he can go to his left with the same accuracy when driving to the basket from the right and the same guy knows if his opponent can do similar things.
Bettors have to know in which race does he have an edge. Some successful horse bettors like maidens. They go on speed, pedigree, confirmation and connections, but without supreme knowledge, they are really banking on just their instinct and not any kind of positive past data.
The most consistent successful horse bettors play races that are right in front of them. Races that have form, but also races that can be looked at with statistical trends in mind.
At the end of the day, there is not point in looking for the winner of a race if the price you are going to accept will not give you a reasonable profit.
You have to evaluate what YOU want from each bet, stick to your guns, and then choose to play or not to play.
With experience, successful horse bettors learn to relax, stay calm, and just like if you are in a prizefight, take punches when you have to but don’t get knocked out.
Good horse bettors get value and live to fight and win that 15th round.
