NHL Furious Playoff Picks 2008 – 7PM Angry Parlay Picks

Dallas Stars (45-30-7) vs. Anaheim Ducks (47-27-8)

Thursday, April 10th --- Honda Center, Anaheim --- 10:00pm

NHL Betting Line: Anaheim -165

The sports betting communities love the Stars because of their great balance, and it’s hard to knock that point. They’re a very strong team. They have the eighth best offense with 3.0 goals per game, and the sixth stingiest defense with only 2.5 goals against. But recent stumblings have left the Stars with lingering questions, and their 4-10 SU record over the last 14 games of the season is no way to enter the vicious world of the NHL playoffs.

Especially if you’re running in to the brick wall known as the Ducks. The returning Stanley Cup Champions are 5-1 SU in their last 6 games and 12-1 SU in their last 13 games at home. They’ve struggled against Dallas this season, but have been a completely new team with Teemu and Niedermeyer back in the fold. Dallas is 6-3 SU in their last 9 games with the Ducks.

But I’m not betting against a team that has gone 20-5-1 SU since the Finnish Flash returned. That horn you hear is the momentum train of the Ducks, and it’s steam rolling right through the Stars tonight. I’m on board with the Ducks reaching the Stanley Cup Finals yet again, and the smart betting investor would be too.

Dallas simply lacks the scoring panache to break through the Twin Towers on the Anaheim blue-line. Expect the bore-fest of Stars games to be revealed as the Ducks shut them down completely and make a resounding declaration with a trouncing over Dallas.

Calgary Flames (42-30-10) vs. San Jose Sharks (49-23-10)

Thursday, April 10th --- HP Pavilion, San Jose --- 10:00pm EST

NHL Betting Line: San Jose -230

Last night, I was stunned by the Flames. Though it took some luck on their part to secure the win, the Sharks showed something that they haven’t in a long time. And that’s the diligence to come from behind when it matters most. They lost 3-2 against Calgary last night, but vengeance is best served with white-hot aggression. Bet hard that San Jose will be out for blood against Calgary tonight in the Shark Tank.

There’s simply no way San Jose is going to let Calgary escape San Jose with two back-to-back wins. Calgary continued its dominance of San Jose, raising their record to 4-1 SU in the last 5 games with San Jose. That was San Jose’s first home loss in five games, and Jarome Iginla haunted their defense. It’s evident now that San Jose may be missing some size on the blue-line, although they are overflowing with talent.

But Mikka Kiprusoff is not looking like the stud goalie he once was. And it’ll be impossible for Calgary to stave off the neck deep roster of San Jose in back-to-back nights. I’d bet on San Jose, even if the oddsmakers have no idea what to do. Hey, this wasn’t going to be easy, but I love San Jose at home despite the loss last night.

NHL Betting Free Pick: San Jose (UNDER)
