NHL Furious Playoff Betting Picks 2008 – Western Playoff Parlay
By Tim Furious
San Jose Sharks (49-23-10) vs. Dallas Stars (45-30-7)
Tuesday, April 29th --- American Airlines Center, Dallas --- 7:30pm EST
Series: Dal 2-0
NHL Betting Line: Dallas -140
I’ll be honest here. I have no idea how to read either of these teams right now. San Jose is either worse than we though, or Dallas is a far superior team than I was ready to give them credit for. Dallas stole the first two road games of the series, going up 2-0 in the series while outscoring the curiously challenged offense of San Jose 8-4. Brad Richards, anyone?
Dallas lost Game 3 against Anaheim after winning two in The Pond. Are they destined for the same fate on Tuesday night when they return home after two triumphs in the Shark Tank? How strange is it that they have an absurd record in arena’s that have nautical based names? Note to the betting investor – don’t get too carried away with that.
The problem in calling this game is that San Jose is 1-5 SU in their last 6 when playing Dallas, 1-4 SU in their last 5 games on the road and have driven the OVER in 4-of-6 against the Stars. That doesn’t sound like a team that had the third best defense in the league with 2.40 goals against.
Even crazier is that Dallas is 1-4 SU in the last 5 games at home against San Jose. Couple that with their Game 3 loss to Anaheim and the trend here is to bet against the home favorites. It’s not a bet that I feel comfortable with, but if I’m leaning on the trends to guide me in this one since it’s impossible to get a plausible read on either of these teams.
NHL Furious Free Pick: San Jose +120 (UNDER)
Detroit Red Wings (54-21-7) vs. Colorado Avalanche (44-31-7)
Tuesday, April 29th --- Pepsi Center, Denver --- 10:00pm EST
Series: Det 2-0
NHL Betting line: Det / Col -110
The Red Wings overshadow the Avalanche in every important statistical category. Most notable is that their goal differential is 0.79, compared to Denver’s +0.35. Yes, that’s more than double and reason for Colorado to worry.
More reasons for them to worry is the loss of Wojtek Wolski and Peter Forsberg to the lineup. Colorado simply can’t stay healthy. And while they are 6-1 SU in their last 7 games, they are winless in five games against Detroit. They’re also 1-7 SU in 8 games when playing the Red Wings at home.
After a thrilling game one, Detroit rocked Colorado 5-1 in a game that wasn’t even a challenge. Detroit is now outscoring their opponents 9-4 on the score sheet and Colorado is losing firepower by the minute.
The Wings went 25-12-4 SU on the road this year, so the road well traveled has brought them a mountain of wins. Colorado boasts a strong home record, but the Wings look completely unstoppable at this point, and the Avs are losing key personnel at the wrong time. Don’t get caught in the fire with your betting dollars in hand.
NHL Furious Free Pick: Detroit -110 (UNDER)
