NHL Furious Free Picks 2008 – Western Conference Parlay

by Tim Furious

Vancouver Canucks (38-29-10) vs. Minnesota Wild (41-28-9)

Friday, March 28th --- Xcel Energy Center, Minneapolis --- 8:00pm EST

NHL Betting Line: Minnesota -175

Vancouver continues to be as average as possible. The brutal thing for all the Minnesota betting faithful is that the Wild aren’t doing much better. Vancouver is an atrocious road bet, as they’ve gone 2-4 SU in their past 6 games. And Minnesota has always played well against the Nucks. They are 4-1 SU in their last 5 games when playing Vancouver.

Minnesota plays a style of hockey that Vancouver is exceptionally vulnerable to. They skate the puck extremely low and strong, forcing their way through a slow Vancouver defensive line. The Nucks will also be without Roberto Luongo, who is dealing with personal issues. You want to bet on a bad hockey team that only survives because of stud goaltending? Especially if that stud goalie is out of the lineup? Neither would I.

NHL Free Picks: Minnesota -175 (UNDER)

San Jose Sharks (46-21-10) vs. Anaheim Ducks (44-26-8)

Friday, March 28th --- Honda Center, Anaheim --- 10:00pm EST

NHL Betting Line: Anaheim -150

When the reigning champion and the heir apparent clash on a Friday night, there’s no reason not be excited. The Ducks and Sharks boast two top-3 defenses, incredible goal tending and solid playmakers on every single line. And the worst part about betting on this game is that there’s no clear distinction on who has the advantage. Anaheim has outscored San Jose 16-12 in their seven meeting this year, and are 5-2 SU in that process.

But the Sharks are 15-2 SU in their last 17 games and 9-1 SU in their past 10 road games. It’s not like San Jose isn’t going to see this as an opportunity to seize the moment. And with J.S. Giguere out with back spasms, Chris Pronger serving a suspension, Ryan Getzlaf nursing a sore shoulder and Corey Perry still out with a leg injury the Ducks are hobbled with some wounded ducks.

The Ducks may be 5-1 SU in their past 6 games, and undefeated in their past 5 home games, but San Jose is going to jump out at the chance to take down the champs and put them on themselves in to Stanley Cup legitimacy. Bet on San Jose as the hobbled Ducks try to get healthy for the playoffs.

NHL Free Picks: San Jose (UNDER)
