Football Betting: NFL picks for Week 6
By Dave Golokhov
Aside from the New England Patriots-Dallas Cowboys game, it’s a pretty ugly schedule this week. For NFL betting purposes, though, it doesn’t matter. Win pretty, win ugly – the money pays the same.
Here are the home dogs for this week:
Cincinnati Bengals @ Kansas City Chiefs (+4)
I can’t go on the Chiefs right now – I have firmly believed them to be one of the worst teams in the NFL already and now with an injured starting quarterback, Damon Huard and a quarterback controversy brewing, I don’t like the Chiefs. They haven’t been able to run the ball on anybody – except a San Diego Chargers defense that didn’t show up – and the Bengals off of a bye week should be able put all their efforts to stop the run. Even so, the Bengals offense should be able to move the ball with ease on the Chiefs, who have seemingly lost their advantage of playing at Arrowhead Stadium.
NFL Free Pick: Bengals -4
Philadelphia Eagles @ New York Jets (+4)
This one is really simple: the Eagles are a passing team and the Jets can’t pressure the quarterback. Look for Donovan McNabb to have his second-strongest week of the season (he won’t play better than he did versus the Detroit Lions) after the team’s bye week. The Jets are also mired in a quarterback controversy as many fans are calling for backup, Kellen Clemens. The Eagles will get right on the road this week.
NFL Free Pick: Eagles -4
New England Patriots @ Dallas Cowboys (+6.5)
I’m stuck on road favorite this week – there is no way you will convince me to take the Dallas Cowboys in this game. No, it has nothing to do with their Monday Night Football performance. It has to do with the fact that they are generally a sloppy team (one of the most penalized team in the NFL and one of the sloppiest with giveaways). The Patriots prey on these types of mistakes. Furthermore, the Cowboys have played soft competition all year long and I’m not sold on their run – or pass – defense. Terrell Owens sparking Randy Moss wasn’t a good idea.
NFL Free Pick: Patriots -6.5
New York Giants @ Atlanta Falcons (+4.5)
The Atlanta Falcons are a different team at home than they are on the road, which is why I have no qualms taking the points with them.
Monday Night Football at the Georgia Dome should be rocking and Joey Harrington should reassert himself this week after getting benched a week ago. The Giants pass rush will have to be the difference if they win, but the Giants are not the same team on the road as they are at home.
Keep an eye on Eli Manning, who still is not an elite quarterback and will have to look over his shoulder to keep tabs on Falcons defensive end, John Abraham.
NFL Free Pick: Falcons +4.5
