Bet on Football – The Biggest Game Ever

by Russell Edward

Oh, the football betting tides are turning yet again, as they always do. This time, caught in the ebb, is the defending Super Bowl champion Indianapolis Colts, while the New England Patriots, who were brushed off the wave last season by this very same team, are surfing back to glory on the arm of Tom Brady, the hands of Moss and Welker, and the anger and utter distain of their media-maligned head coach, Bill Belichick.

New England Patriots –6.5 at Indianapolis Colts +6.5

The last time these two played was the last time either of them lost, and it was the Colts who came out on top after a second half defensive collapse allowed a furious comeback campaign by Peyton Manning to succeed. Since then, the pats have strengthened just about every aspect of their game. That does not bode well for the champs, even at home, even undefeated this season.

New England has a chip on their collective shoulder the size of the RCA Dome itself, and they are running everyone they meet into the ground, almost literally. While it can be argued that Indy has remained unbeaten after a rougher schedule so far, it can’t be argued that the pure fury with which the Pats have destroyed their opponents has been something the likes of which has never been seen. Already, the Pats gave scored more points than 17 NFL teams did in the entire 2006 season. Even with NFL betting lines set at 15, 16, 18 points in favor of New England, they have covered ion every single game, with ease.

Some are making this game out to be a Good vs. Evil match-up, with the Colts, led by Christian right-wing coach Tony Dungy as the good guys. The Patriots, led by stormy-faced, grey hoodie –wearing Belichick - caught cheating earlier this season, and unapologetic about it - are, of course, the bad guys. Doing things like running up the score on people like Hall of Fame coach Joe Gibbs – trying very hard to score, up 38-0 – does them no favors in the eye of the media storm.

The fact that they neither seem to care or even notice what the score is and how much time is left on the clock, or who they are playing, or where, is why darkness will prevail in this game. Football is smash-mouth, sanctioned violence, people. If you don’t like to watch all-out destruction, watch golf this Sunday, because this is not going to be a pretty game for those of you who cry for the days of mediocrity.
