NFL Week 1
The Philadelphia Eagles say they have legitimate Super Bowl hopes while the Green Bay Packers are just looking to reach the postseason.
Each team gets its season started with a Sunday matchup that should reveal a lot about where both teams currently stand and how far they have to go to realize their goals.
Here is a look at tonight’s key trends followed by my Free NFL Wagering Picks:
Key Eagles Trends
The Eagles are 5-2-1 ATS in their last eight vs. NFC teams
The Eagles are 7-3 ATS in their last ten games in September.
The Eagles are 2-5-1 ATS in their last eight games as a road favorite.
Key Packers Trends
The Packers are 5-1-1 ATS in their last seven vs. NFC.
The Packers are 5-13-2 ATS in their last 20 games on Grass.
The Packers are 6-18-2 ATS in their last 26 home games.
Key Totals Trends
The Over is 6-1-1 in Eagles last eight road games.
The Under is 25-9-4 in Eagles last 38 games as a favorite.
The Under is 5-1 in Packers last six games as an underdog of 0.5-3.0.
The Under is 5-2 in Packers last seven games as a home underdog.
Key Head-to-Head Trends
The Eagles are 7-1 ATS in their last eight meetings.
The Under is 5-1 in the last six meetings.
Philadelphia Eagles: The Eagles have won two of their last three season openers and went a respectable, 8-7-1 ATS (against
the spread) last season, good enough for 10th in the league. The Eagles were also a solid 4-3-1 on the road ATS and an even better 7-5-1 ATS on grass, which says they stand an excellent chance to cover in this game.
Green Bay Packers: The Packers have lost two straight season openers after winning three of four from 2001-2004. Green Bay was 7-8-1 ATS last season, 19th in the league.
More importantly for NFL bettors, the Packers were a dismal 2-6 ATS at home last season and only 5-7 ATS on grass. The Packers had a very good draft – but a mediocre free agency signing period – which is crucial to quick rebuilding plans these days.
Analysis: Look for the Eagles to go to the nearly unstoppable Brian Westbrook early and often, especially since there isn’t a player on the Packers’ roster than can cover the elusive back. While Packers’ quarterback Brett Favre will test the Eagles’ suspect secondary often, the Eagles are the better team on offense, defense and special teams. Take the Birds minus the points to cover here football betting fans.
