NFL Super Bowl Betting – Randy Moss Receiving Yards

How many receiving yards will Randy Moss, the New England Patriots' record-setting wide receiver, have in the first half? The second half? His team, the Patriots, is favored by 11.5 points in the Super Bowl, according to the BetUS Super Bowl odds, with the total posted at 54 points.

Super Bowl -- February 3

RANDY MOSS

1st Half - Under 47 yards -120

1st Half - Over 47 yards -120

2nd Half - Under 47 yards -120

2nd Half - Over 47 yards -120

Moss set an NFL record with 23 touchdown catches this season. But he has been conspicuously absent from the playoffs, with just two catches in two games and

Moss averaged 93 yards per game over the course of the regular season. But those figures dropped in the latter part of the year. In the first ten games, Moss posted an average of 105 yards a game. But he has averaged 59 yards a game over his last eight games, including two receptions for 32 yards in the two playoff games New England has engaged in.

So people may ask, "What has happened to Randy Moss?" or "Has the problem with that woman in Florida (the one who got the retraining order against him) affected his play?"

I don't think that's the case. What has happened is that coaches have studied film. Moss is the Patriots' deep threat - that much is clear. In nine games for the Pats, including the regular season finale against the Giants, where he had six catches for 100 yards, he had at least one reception of 35 or more yards. As teams are scared about the Patriots running right down the field and scoring, he is the main target.

So now the strategy has shifted to taking Moss out of the game with double coverage (at least). Not coincidentally, New England has covered just one of its last eight games. Not that coaches are looking at that stat. But if you use that as a barometer of how teams are playing relative to expectations, that tells you something.

I am sure that Tom Brady will look to establish Moss early, but he can live with it if he can't. In the Superbowl, I would expect that the Giants will take extra steps to stop Moss from taking over, because it has helped bring New England down to earth a little. They'll make Brady "earn it" as he goes down the field. This means that Moss won't likely approach his regular season prorated averages, and thus we're looking at an "under" for both halves.

JAY'S PLAYS: UNDER 47 YARDS - 1ST HALF *** and UNDER 47 YARDS - 2ND HALF *** (Both -120)
