NFL Prop Wagering - Marc Bulger Odds

Marc Bulger had an extremely productive season in 2006; when all was said and done he had thrown for 4301 yards and had just eight of his passes intercepted in 588 attempts. Certainly new coach Scott Linehan wanted for the St. Louis Rams to cut down on turnovers, and Bulger did that brilliantly. But can he do it again? In an injury-plagued 2005 season, he threw nine INT's in eight games, and the year before, there were 14 picks in a hundred less attempts than he made in 2006. Furthermore, 4300 is a lot of yards to repeat.

Another thing to keep in mind - this is not Mike Martz's offense being run in St. Louis anymore. By nature, Linehan is a more conservative coach than he showed on offense in his first year at the helm. That means his formula for continuing to cut down on turnovers might be for Bulger to throw the ball a little less and for Stephen Jackson (and backfield mates like newly drafted Brian Leonard) to run the ball a bit more.

One of the major priorities in the off-season was getting the offensive line revamped and rebuilt, and what that means is that Linehan can attempt to exercise more ball control. Jackson had 1528 rushing yards last year, so St. Louis has one critical element of it.

That may turn out to mean less passing yards and less touchdown passes for Bulger. But not a whole heck of a lot less. Yes, Isaac Bruce is 35 yards old. But he IS Isaac Bruce. Drew Bennett may be an upgrade at the #3 receiver spot, while tight end Randy McMichael and the aforementioned Leonard, out of Rutgers, will be useful in the short passing game. Added to this group is Dante Hall, who has been acquired primarily as a return man but will be available to contribute at WR as well.

If the offensive line holds together, there is every reason to believe the Rams will move the ball. But look more in the direction of balance with this team, because that's the way Linehan ultimately wants it.
