NFL Prop Betting - Drew Brees Season Total Odds

Drew Brees was obviously one of the great comeback stories of 2006. When he got injured toward the end of the '05 season (it was a "labrum" - know what that is?), it probably made the people in the San Diego front office happy, because it facilitated their decision to hand Phillip Rivers the quarterback job the next season that much easier. Brees found refuge in New Orleans, where first-year head coach Sean Peyton took a chance on him, then proved why he was worthy of the Coach of the Year award.

There is no escaping the fact that the Saints got a little lucky; another quarterback with injury concerns, Daunte Culpepper, was grabbed up by the Miami Dolphins and lasted only a handful of games before being shelved for the year. Brees, on the other hand, had put up good numbers with the Chargers, where he had a 27-7 TD-INT ratio in a near-MVP season in '04, but the truth is that he achieved levels not thought possible once he got to the Crescent City. He teamed with Reggie Bush, a rejuvenated Deuce McAllister and a decent group of receivers to pass for 4418 yards on 356 completions. He threw for an incredible 510 yards against Cincinnati, but also had plenty of off-games.

There is no reason to believe Brees can't be productive, but getting close to those yardage figures of last year is going to be very difficult. Joe Horn is no longer a part of the receiving corps; rookie Robert Meachem will be counted on, and the team must look for another big year from Marques Colston, the second-year player out of Hofstra. Brees always seems to throw around 25 TD passes, but there will probably be more balance in the offense, as Bush, who was primarily used as a receiving threat as a rookie, works himself into the backfield in a more meaningful way. If McAllister doesn't carry a big load, Bush may be forced to log extra duty carrying the ball.

The bottom line is that getting anywhere close to the '06 totals may be too much to ask of Brees.
