NFL Preseason Betting – Jacksonville Jaguars at Miami Dolphins
by Eric Williams
Football fanatics are back in business with the start of the NFL preseason football betting schedule this week. This matchup between the Jacksonville Jaguars and Miami Dolphins is an excellent opportunity for football bettors to get their 2007 football wagering season started off on the right foot.
Here is a look at each team followed by my Free NFL Pick:
Miami Dolphins: 2006 preseason record: 2-2 SU, 2-2 ATS
The Cam Cameron era has gotten off to a semi-rocky start already as Miami’s decision to bypass former Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn in favor of former Ohio wideout Ted Ginn Jr., brought immediate boos for Cameron and Dolphins GM Randy Mueller.
The ‘Fins followed that move up by tossing 30-year-old quarterback Daunte Culpepper aside like yesterday’s trash in favor of 37-year-old ‘handle with care’ quarterback, Trent Green.
While Green is a more than capable quarterback when given talented skill position players – and ample pass protection – the Dolphins are severely lacking in both areas at the moment.
Led by Defensive Player of the Year, Jason Taylor and All-Pro linebacker Zach Thomas, the strength of the 2007 Miami Dolphins will once again be their outstanding defense.
Jacksonville Jaguars: – 2006 preseason record: 3-1 SU, 3-1 ATS
The Jaguars have been the epitome of a ‘Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde’ team the past few seasons. While Jacksonville has been a solid defensive team under head coach Jack Del Rio the Jaguars’ offense has left a lot to be desired.
The Jaguars have big question marks at quarterback with Byron Leftwich, David Garrard and former No.1 overall selection, Tim Couch, all vying for the starting position.
Wide receiver has also been a problematic position for the Jaguars that needs to be shored up in the worst way. If new offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter, can mold Jacksonville’s offense into a cohesive unit, the Jaguars may finally make an extended postseason appearance.
Analysis: With the starters for each team playing just a series or two at best tonight, this game will be decided by each franchise’s backup players. The edge here goes to Jacksonville’s more experienced reserves – and so does the cover for NFL bettors.
