Bet on NFL Playoffs – Can the Seahawks Pass the Redskins?

The Seattle Seahawks have once again won the weakest division in the NFL betting season, and once again the pundits are saying that the other teams in the NFC West are almost ready to make a move for the top. We’ll see about that, as this same refrain has been heard in the Pacific Northwest for years now, yet the birds from the Emerald City are still flying high. If you are planning to bet on the NFL playoffs, this game is your first chance of the season, and the bookmakers at the BetUS sportsbook have pegged the Seahawks as three-point home favorites over the Washington Redskins.

Washington Redskins +3 at Seattle Seahawks –3

The way the Seahawks running game has been this season, they will want to get their supposed backup running back, Maurice Morris, involved in the game as quickly as possible, perhaps only starting Shaun Alexander in name. Alexander has been decidedly unimpressive this season with just four TDs and only averaging 3.5 yards per carry. It has become clear that Alexander has little interest on playing hard – something he was accused of before he put up record numbers in the two seasons before he was given a huge contract; since then, he has looked even softer than his detractors said he was.

Morris is clearly now the better running back. He is faster and has a better burst into holes than Alexander and he also helps in the passing game. His ability to catch passes out of the backfield helps the coaches in their play-calling, as they don’t have to try to disguise passing plays anymore like they did with Alexander.

The Hawks will stick to the West Coast style dink and dunk passing game that will help to set up the run. This will stretch the field for quarterback Matt Hasselbeck and allow his receivers to get into mismatches in coverage. Hasselbeck will try to take advantage of these and his ability to throw the ball to any point on the field will put a ton of pressure on the Redskins secondary.

When you bet on NFL football odds, you know that sometimes it is the unexpected that decides whether or not you win or lose. The key to whether or not the Seahawks cover against the Skins could very well be due to field position, as the Seahawks kick coverage has been a little iffy as of late, while Washington returners Randle-El and Cartwright can break off a huge return at any time.
