Now, before someone tries an onsides kick or something, let’s get started.
To Win Sporting News Rookie of the Year
The Best Bets
Darren McFadden +400
McFadden will likely win this award as he will start for the Raiders and get plenty of carries.
Matt Ryan +550
If Ryan starts right away for Atlanta, it could happen. However, he could be running for his life most of the time as well.
Glenn Dorsey +500
Dorsey could shine immediately for the Chiefs and defensive-minded head coach Herm Edwards.
Chris Long +500
Long is a playmaker and he will play right away from the Rams.
Jake Long +750
The two-time team captain became the first Wolverine and only the fourth player ever to garner Big Ten Offensive Lineman of the Year honors in consecutive seasons and will start right away fro the Dolphins. If Ricky Williams on Ronnie Brwon puts up big numbers, Long could be the surprise winner.
Vernon Gholston +800
If Gholston is as good as advertised, the Jets defensive end could rack up a double digit sack total.
Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie +1200
If the athletic Rodgers- Cromartie picks off five passes for the Cardinals, he’ll get plenty of consideration.
Jonathan Stewart +550
Stewart plays the right position at running back and is playing for a team, (Carolina) that should get him on the field early and often in 2008.
Jerrod Mayo +750
Mayo is playing linebacker for the most linebacker-oriented defensive unit in all of football. He could make a big impact under Bill Belichick.

Analysis: BetUS NFL online bettors likely already know that the skill positions generally tend to get a lot of notice, though the slew of talented defensive linemen entering the league these days, certainly plays a role in this voting process.
NFL bettors should look at rookies who will get the chance to contribute right away for their respective teams, particularly skill position players.
I like McFadden to make an immediate impact, much like Minnesota Vikings’ rookie runner Adrian Peterson did last season. McFadden is supremely talented and will run for a bunch of yards with just a sliver of daylight.
My Pick: Darren McFadden
