NFL Futures Betting – 2008 Dallas Cowboys Wagering Outlook
by Eric Williams
I’ll readily admit to BetUS online NFL betting faithful that the Dallas Cowboys, (13-3 SU, 9-7 ATS, 10-6 O/U) were my preseason pick in the BetUS Locker Room to reach Super Bowl XLII out of the NFC last season – and with good reason too – the team has a ton of talent and one of the best veteran head coaches in the game today in defensive genius Wade Phillips.
Now, the Cowboys say that the 2008 season is a Super Bowl or Bust mission that they are prepared for more than ever.
Led by blossoming quarterback Tony Romo, the Cowboys recorded the third-best overall offense in the league last season, averaging 365.4 total yards per game, including 256.4 passing yards per game to rank fourth overall.
The Cowboys, under Phillips’ smooth leadership, also ranked ninth overall in defense, including sixth against the run as they limited their opponents to just 94.6 rushing yards per contest.
The Cowboys ranked just 17th in rushing and 14th in pass defense, so Phillips will look to shore up both of those areas heading into the regular season opener.
Dallas recorded a solid 9-7 ATS record last season, going 5-3 ATS at home and 4-4 ATS on the road. The Cowboys also used their prolific offense to go ‘Over’ the O/U totals in 10 of their 16 regular season games.
The Cowboys will depend on elusive starting running back Marion Barber more this season after parting ways with former back Julius Jones who formerly shared the load with Barber and have three Pro Bowl linemen opening holes for Barber.
