NFL Football Betting - Brett Favre Farewell to a Champion

The NFL betting community says farewell to an all-time great that's certainly a first-ballot Hall of Famer. Gunslinger Brett Favre of the Green Bay Packers will hang it up after a lustrous 17 year career under center.

The 38-year-old walked away from a promising young team Tuesday, telling Green Bay he finally is tired enough to retire.

The three-time MVP will take with him some of the NFL’s significant records, including most career victories by a starting quarterback (160), most touchdown passes (442), most career yards passing (61,655), and a Super Bowl ring won in the 1997.

Favre’s most impressive number is his quarterback-record streak of 253 consecutive regular-season starts that proved his true gut and grit. Figure in postseason, and Favre’s streak stands at 275. He's the Cal Ripken of football and even more of an iron man.

The run began with a 17-3 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sept. 27, 1992. Since then, Favre dazzled NFL wagering fans for 17 years. If you bet on football, at one time or the other you most likely invested in the arm of Favre.

Losing is part of the business, but even in games Favre failed to cover the spread you supported, it was hard to be angered because of the effort and enthusiasm he displayed day in and day out. The Mississippi native played the game the way it should be played, all out.

Favre’s mechanics were not the best the league has seen but he owned the strongest arm in the game. His go-for-broke approach allowed him to cover the number many times as one of the most idolized players in NFL history.

His awesome ability to convert on third downs by escaping the pass rush and presence of mind to flip an underhanded pass to a running back in the flat made him a nine-time Pro Bowler.

If you bet on NFL and play totals, it was difficult to take the under in games Favre appeared, because once he found his stride the over became golden.

Above all, Favre carried with him the heart of a champion, which was proven on Dec. 22, 2003. Just one day after the sudden death of his father, Favre passed for 399 yards and four touchdowns on Monday Night Football in a blowout 41-7 win over Oakland. It was a magical night and not even the death of his father could stop him.
