NFL Betting - Week 1 Results

What a fantastic first week of NFL betting! The Indianapolis Colts and New Orleans Saints kicked off last Thursday night with the Colts demolishing the – 6.5 against the spread by taking it to the Saints 41 – 10.

What was so telling about the game was how the Colts’ defense just man-handled the NFL’s number one offense from a year ago. Because the New England Patriots did the same thing to the New York Jets over the weekend, and the San Diego Chargers beat last year’s Super Bowl NFC representative, the Chicago Bears, winning their game 38 - 14 on the road, the BetUS Super Bowl future wager odds on the Colts were remaining strong at +700 the last time I checked.

Don’t be surprised if the NFL future wager odds change in a hurry as the Colts looked superb, better even, than the Patriots did in their win over the Jets.

The San Diego Chargers covered the –7 they were giving to the Bears in their game, but it took them all four quarters and they just didn’t seem to be the same team they were last year. For the Chicago Bears, Rex Grossman does appear to be the same, which is a bad thing for Bears’ fans.

The Houston Texans were working with one of the best overall NFL betting lines of the weekend, - 3 against the spread versus the Kansas City Chiefs, and did not disappoint, flattening the spread by a score of 20 – 3.

Perhaps, the biggest disappointment was the Jacksonville Jaguars who, due to their kicker being hurt, just didn’t play as well as everyone expected. The BetUS football betting line, which opened at 6.5, rose all the way to 7, but it didn’t matter as the Jaguars struggled all day, eventually losing to the Tennessee Titans.

Looking ahead to this weekend, the New Orleans Saints are a less than solid favorite on the road, according to the BetUS NFL betting line, giving up –3 versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Saints should bounce back but these rivalry games are awfully tough.

No such discussion regarding the Carolina Panthers as the BetUS betting line on their game versus the Houston Texans is Carolina -7 against the spread at home.

The big Sunday night game pits the New England Patriots at home versus the San Diego Chargers. The BetUS line has the Chargers as -4 underdogs against the spread versus the Patriots in this one, and, from this sports handicappers point-of-view, the line appears to be exactly where it should.

It remains to be seen whether or not the Jacksonville Jaguars bounce back from their terrible showing versus the Tennessee Titans. They are at home again this week and get to play the Vick-less Atlanta Falcons. BetUS has opened the line at Jaguars -11 against the spread.
