Football Betting - NFC Divisional Game
by Robby Maddux
Saturday, the Seattle Seahawks head to Lambeau Field to battle the Green Bay Packers at 4:30pm EST for what promises to be a postseason NFC divisional title NFL betting dandy.
The Seahawks punched their ticket to this game by downing the Washington Redskins at Qwest Field 35-14 last week. Matt Hasselbeck finished 20-for-32 for 229 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. D.J. Hackett caught six passes for 101 yards in the money-making win as the 3-point favorites.
However, when Seattle lights up the scoreboard, they struggle to turn a profit in their next showing. The Seahawks are 2-5 ATS (against the spread) in their last seven games after scoring more than 30 points in the previous outing.
As well, they are just 7-20-3 ATS in their last 30 games following a SU (straight up) win of more than 14 points.
Now, the Seahawks play Green Bay, a playoff rematch of a 2004 wild-card game remembered for Matt Hasselbeck's proclamation of "We want the ball and we're going to score!" after the Seahawks won the overtime coin flip. Instead, Hasselbeck threw an interception that was returned for a touchdown.
The most recent meeting between the two came last year at Seattle as the Seahawks claimed a 34-24 victory. This year, Seattle is 11-6 SU and 10-7 ATS including last weeks win.
Green Bay finished the regular season at 13-3 SU and a profitable 12-3-1 ATS, as the biggest money-makers in the business thanks to an offense led by gunslinger Brett Favre that scored 27.2 (4th-best in the league) points per game and collected 278.8 yards through the air which was second best in the NFL.
Despite Green Bay's success this season, they are only 1-4 ATS in their last five playoff games. But they are a solid 13-4-2 ATS in their last 19 versus NFC foes.
NFL odds display Green Bay the 8-point favorites with a game total of 42. When oddsmakers give the Packers their respect, they've responded well by covering the spread in six of the last seven games in which they've been pegged the favorites.
Sunday, the New York Giants go to ''Big D'' to take on the Dallas Cowboys beginning at 4:30pm EST to battle in the other NFC division title game.
New York has fared much better in postseason play then Dallas at the ticket counter. The Giants are 5-2 ATS in their last seven playoff games, meanwhile, the Cowboys are 1-4 in their last five postseason contests.
Also, Dallas has failed to cover the number in their last four games. It's been a different story for the Giants, who's cashed in five of its last six appearances.
