Bet on NFL - Cleveland Browns (- 1.5) vs. Arizona (+1.5)
by D.S. Williamson
It is a tough game to call, on paper these two teams look like carbon-copies of each other.
Both teams sport terrific running backs in Edgerrin James for Arizona and Jamal Lewis for Cleveland. Both teams have adequate quarterbacks in Derek Anderson for the Browns and Kurt Warner for the Cardinals. Both teams have good pass-cathers in Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald for the Arizona Cardinals and Braylon Edwards and Kellen Winslow for the Cleveland Browns. Both teams give up tons of points.
The trends involving these two teams speak to parallels between them:
The Cleveland Browns are 8 and 0 against the spread in their last 8 games on grass.
The Arizona Cardinals are 8 and 3 against the spread in their last 11 games on grass.
The difference between these two teams may be the offensive-line. The Browns’ O-line appears to be much better suited for a high-scoring game than the Cardinal’s O-line.
The Browns can protect quarterback Derek Anderson while the Cardinals’ O-line showed last week that, at times, they have serious mental breakdowns that inevitably cause their quarterback to wonder why he’s on his back.
Also, the Cardinals do not have that dump-down tight-end that the Browns have. There is nobody on the Cardinals’ D who can cover Browns’ tight-end Kellen Winslow, that includes tough Cardinals’ line-backer, Karlos Dansby.
Dansby shouldn’t feel bad as there are very few players in the NFL who can cover Winslow. He’s that good.
Braylon Edwards, one of the top wide receivers in the NFL, requires double-coverage at all times. Edwards still finds a way to beat you when you put a strong or free safety on him. What does that mean? That Jamal Lewis, the Browns tough inside RB, gets to pound the ball because there is no way that an NFL defense can afford to stack the box against such an explosive passing team.
Don’t get me wrong, the Cardinals will score with the Browns. The problem is that the Cardinals won’t score enough.
The BetUS football betting line is Cleveland Browns – 1.5 against the spread on the road versus the Arizona Cardinals.
I like the Browns in this one. The Cardinals D will have a terrible time containing such an explosive offense.
