Football Betting Action - Denver (- 1.5) vs. Houston (+ 1.5)
By D.S. Williamson
Both the Broncos and Texans are coming off excellent wins. The Broncos looked spectacular versus the Kansas City Chiefs at home winning 41 to 7. At times this year, the Broncos have looked like one of the top teams in the AFC, with wins over the Tennessee Titans and Pittsburgh Steelers, then they look like AFC West Divisional doormats with losses to the Oakland Raiders and Detroit Lions.
The Texans have been almost a carbon-copy of the Broncos this year. They, like the Broncos, are coming off of a terrific win versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but for every Buccaneers type team that they beat, they also drop a game to a team like the Atlanta Falcons.
That’s why this line is where it is. This game pretty much comes down to picking the straight-up winner. Usually, in these types of situations trends mean a lot:
The Houston Texans are 6 and 2 against the spread in their last 8 home games.
The Houston Texans are 10 and 4 against the spread in their last 14 games in December.
The Denver Broncos are meeting the Houston Texans at the wrong time of the year. Even though the Broncos have to win this game if they are to keep their slim hopes of a Wild-Card Playoff berth alive, the Texans are the team that is playing better NFL football.
Denver absolutely destroyed Kansas City last week, but that doesn’t mean anything. They are traveling to a place where home-field advantage actually does mean something. This has the makings of a low-scoring game even though the Broncos have gone OVER in their last four games.
The reason is that the Houston defense is actually pretty good. It’s shut-down some high-scoring offense, like the New Orleans Saints, and that means that they can get to Denver quarterback, Jay Cutler.
Cutler hasn’t proven that he can perform under pressure. That should help the Texans in this game.
The BetUS NFL Betting line is Houston Texans + 1.5 against the spread at home versus the Denver Broncos.
I like the Texans to win this one outright. The Broncos have been giving up way too many points, and won’t be able to keep pace with a Texans team with a very good defense.
