NCAA Betting News –ATS Numbers Not Merry For Maryland
By Eric Williams
While longtime head coach Gary Williams is generally recognized as one of the finest collegiate head coaches in the world, building the University of Maryland into a nationally recognized championship winning program, the Terrapins have fallen on hard times recently and their ATS numbers are taking a huge hit because of it.
With a straight up, (SU), record of just 10-7, it’s clear to see that this year’s version of the Terrapins is mediocre at best – though that by no means is a reflection of Williams’ coaching abilities.
The fact of the matter is that the Terrapins are a young team with three sophomores contributing in a big way, including guards Greivis Vasquez, (16.5 ppg), the team’s leading scorer fellow sophomore guard and Eric Hayes (11.0 ppg) as well as sophomore forward Landon Milbourne (7.3 ppg).
While the young Terrapins learn and take their lumps, bettors may want to consider NCAAB betting against them for a while.
Maryland is just 4-8 ATS overall, including a 2-5 home mark both ATS and in O/U wagers. Ironically, Maryland is 2-0 ATS and O/U on the road this season.
With a tortuous schedule of upcoming games against Wake Forest, (11-4 SU, 5-4-1 ATS), North Carolina, (17-0 SU, 12-2 ATS), Duke, (12-1 SU, 6-6 ATS), Virginia, (10-3 SU, 5-3 ATS) and Georgia Tech, (7-8 SU, 5-8 ATS), the Terrapins could very well be looking at a 1-4 SU stretch at best.
The Terrapins average 71.5 points per games but shoot just 44.1 percent from the field as a team and just 31.6 percent from long distance. Defensively, Maryland is fourth in the nation in field goal percentage, limiting their opponents to just 36.5 percent shooting from the field.
Still, that stellar statistic hasn’t been able to help them overcome their own offensive ineptitude. Greivis and Hayes, the team’s first and third leading scorers respectively, are both shooting a dismal 41 percent from the field.
The Terrapins could be a team to watch in their next five contests. Check out the BetUS.com Sportsbook for all the latest NCAA Basketball Odds and the BetUS.com Locker Rook for all the latest wagering information for the best handicappers on the planet.
