NCAAF Wagering - USC Trojans vs. Nebraska Cornhuskers
By Robby Maddux
The last two programs to win back-to-back national championships square off on Saturday (8:00pm EST) when the No. 1 USC Trojans (-10.5) face the No. 14 Cornhuskers (+10.5) at Memorial Stadium, and we have the NCAA football betting winning selection.
USC has won at least 11 games straight up in their past five seasons, claiming the national championship in 2004 after sharing it with LSU in 2003. Nebraska is the last team to win it outright in two straight years, in 1994 and 1995.
The Trojans are coming off a bye week and enter this game with one unimpressive 38-10 win over Idaho on Sept. 1 to their credit. Favored by 46 points, USC's defense allowed 182 yards of total offense in the first half and forced only one turnover for the game.
John David Booty threw for three touchdowns in the first three quarters in the win, going 21-of-32 for 206 yards with an interception. This week, Booty will be facing a Cornhuskers squad which has held opposing quarterbacks to a 41.2 completion percentage and an average of 124.0 yards while intercepting three passes in their first two games.
Nebraska is 2-0 straight up and 1-1 against the spread. The Cornhuskers are coming off a 20-17 win over Wake Forest but failed to cover the number as the 8.5-point favorites.
Quarterback Sam Keller completed 24-of-41 passes for 258 yards, was picked off twice and led an impressive scoring drive late in the second quarter that ended with his lone touchdown pass.
Nebraska managed just 27 on the ground at halftime against Wake Forest and finished with 115. Marlon Lucky, who had a career-high 233 yards rushing last week, had just 90 yards on 24 carries.
Defensively, the Cornhuskers have allowed 13.5 points per game in their first two contests and 280.5 yards. Offensively, they've put up 36 points per game and 499 yards.
NCAA odds display USC 10.5-point favorites. The Trojans should be able to return to their strong ways on offense that posted 30.3 points per game last year to get the cover win.
