NCAA Football Spreads - TCU vs. Texas
By Robby Maddux
The NCAA football betting group can watch the 19th-ranked TCU Horned Frogs attempt to extend their five-game win streak against Big 12 opponents Saturday evening when they battle the 7th-ranked Texas Longhorns in Austin.
TCU trails the all-time series 60-20-1 straight up, and have lost 14 consecutive meetings in Austin. The last meeting came on Nov. 18, 1995 when Texas won 27-19 at home.
The Horned Frogs have won at least 10 games in four of their last five campaigns and are oddsmakers choice to win the Mountain West Conference this seasons.
Last year, TCU manufactured a cash making against the spread record of 8-3. They finished the regular season having covered the spread in six of their last seven games, capping of the campaign with a money making 37-7 bowl victory over Northern Illinois.
Offensively, TCU is talented and in its opener against Baylor, quarterback Andy Dalton threw for 205 yards and a touchdown in his first collegiate start in the 27-0 cover win as the three touchdown favorite.
TCU returned seven starters on defense. Last year, the squad ranked in the top three nationally in total defense, rushing and scoring. TCU has surrendered only 44 points during their winning streak against the Big 12, and have won nine of their last 10 against teams from BCS conferences.
The defense will be facing a Texas offense that struggled in a 21-13 money dropping win over Arkansas State last week in its season opener as the 39.5-point favorites. Colt McCoy threw for 223 yards with two touchdowns, but was also picked off twice.
Texas also struggled on defense. It allowed nearly 400 yards, including a fourth-quarter scoring drive that covered 93 yards.
Last year, Texas failed to cover the spread in five of its last six games that included a narrow 26-24 win in a bowl game against Iowa. Overall, they went 5-6 against the spread.
NCAA football spreads have Texas listed as the 9-point favorites with a total of 44.5. This should be a high-scoring game. Hop on the over, no pun intended Horned Frog fans, and grab yourself a Week 2 winner.
