NCAA Football Betting – Week 2 Preview

by Robby Maddux

With the exception of a handful of games, this weekend's schedule is made up of mostly mismatches. In early action, teams do battle outside of their conference usually in games that aren't exactly bowl type caliber contests. However, from a NCAA football betting standpoint, these games are interesting to say the least.

Week's 3 and 4 become clearer as teams begin battle in their own conference and stats start to compile, giving bettors a solid tool for college football handicapping. Until we reach that stage in the season, there's plenty of exciting betting action to build your bankroll.

Week 1 of NCAA football action was stellar and proved any team can pull of the upset. Just ask Michigan! Appalachian State's (formerly known as Division I-AA) incomprehensible 34-32 victory was the biggest upset in Wolverine's history and arguably the biggest ever in college football.

Michigan's dreams of a national title probably ended with the loss as they try to bounce back this weekend against Oregon (+8 underdog). If Michigan (-8 favorite) doesn't improve significantly on both sides of the ball, the Wolverines will again have more trouble surviving. That's just one game the college football betting community can take in this weekend.

Week 2 action kicks off Thursday evening with No. 10 Louisville (-40 favorite) hosting Middle Tennessee State (+40 underdog), followed by Oregon State (-3.5 favorite) taking on Cincinnati (+3.5 underdog) in the Queen City with both clubs coming off wins.

Last week, Louisville routed Murray State 73-10 in convincing fashion. Middle Tennessee is coming off a money dropping 27-14 loss to Florida Atlantic as the slight underdogs. This could be another lopsided victory for Louisville who is making a bid towards a championship led by Heisman hopeful quarterback Brian Brohm who threw for 375 yards and four touchdowns in just over a half of work in the season opener.

There's also a game Friday between visiting Navy (+17 underdog) and No. 16 Rutgers (-17 favorite). Navy posted a 30-19 victory in their first game but failed to cover the spread as the three touchdown favorites. Rutgers dominated against Buffalo in a 38-3 cover victory.

Saturday's card is highlighted by No. 9 Virginia Tech (+14 underdog) and No. 2 LSU (-14 favorite). Virginia Tech struggled against East Carolina in their season opener 17-7 while dropping the cash as the chalk. It was a different story for LSU who romped Mississippi State 45-0 with an easy cover win. NCAA football odds currently display LSU the early 14-point favorites.
