College Football Betting – Champs Sports Bowl: Spartans vs. Eagles

Boston College comes into the Champs Sports Bowl to play the Michigan State Spartans knowing full well that, in order for them to win this game and cover the 4.5-point football betting spread, they will have to have success in eating up the clock with sustained drives. If they had better receivers, they could take advantage of the Spartans susceptibility to long passing plays, but they do not have that luxury. The biggest concern for those of you who like to bet on college bowls and want to make one in the BetUS.com sportsbook for this game is Eagles quarterback Matt Ryan’s inconsistency as the season wound down.

Michigan State Spartans +4.5 vs. Boston College Eagles –4.5

In the final three games, Ryan has thrown more interceptions than touchdowns and his decision-making skills in the face of heavy pressure have been poor. Going up against DE Jonal Saint-Dic is not going to remedy that situation, as he is powerful, fast and continuous in his assault off the edge. Ryan has the chance here to redeem himself somewhat in the eyes of fans, coaches and the NFL scouts and he certainly has displayed the drive and ability to do so in the past. In his last game for Boston College, this should not be discounted.

At running back, Andre Callender is quick and has great balance, which allows him to break tackles that do not wrap him up right away, but his relatively small stature means he won’t be able to push the pile and his skills are negligible in short yardage situations.

He will be helped in this game by the fact that his offensive line is so much larger than the defensive front put forth by Michigan State. He should be able to at least average the Spartans 3.8 yards per carry allowed. Once he gets the run established, his role as the team’s leading receiver will be able to be exploited by Ryan as the team tries to keep drives alive.

Look for Ryan to have a good last college game and he will have to, as the Spartans do not make many mistakes. Michigan State takes very few penalties and should be able to at least stay very close in this game, if not win it outright.
