College Football Betting – Motor City Bowl Chippewas vs. Boilermakers
by Russell Edward
Including their 25-point win over Miami (OH) in the MAC championship game, the Central Michigan Chippewas have won four of their last five games. This same team was handily defeated earlier in the year by the team they will meet in the Motor City Bowl, Purdue. The Boilermakers, however, did not have quite the same finish to the season as Central Michigan did; they lost three in a row to end things after a promising start in which they won their first five games. If you bet on college bowls, here is a bit of what the Chippewas will be up against.
Central Michigan Chippewas +8.5 vs. Purdue Boilermakers –8.5
The Boilermaker’s pas attack has been among the best in the land during this season. It has been led by quarterback Curtis Painter, who threw for 360 yards and three scores when these two teams met earlier in the year. He may have a harder time duplicating those numbers this time around. Wide receiver Selwyn Lymon was dismissed from the team, making things easier for the Chippewas corners to do well in single coverage and also allow them better chances to blitz. Still, they will have to content with Dorien Bryant and Greg Orton on the outside and tight end Dustin Keller over the middle.
Motor City Bowl @ Ford Field: 7:30 PM, Wednesday, December 26, 2007
As for the ground game, the Boilermakers have a two-headed monster with Kory Sheets and Jaycen Taylor. Both are quick out of the gates, reaching top speed in no time, and both average more than five yards per tote. The fact that Central Michigan’s run defense gives up over four yards on average must be making the O-line and these tow backs drool in anticipation of this game. Even more in favor of the Boilermakers is their spread offense, which will not allow the defensive front to bring up a linebacker. The passing game will make it tough to bring men up to fight the run.
The NCAA football betting public must, however, keep in mind that these Boilermakers are just college kids, after all, and the end they had to their season could make it tough for coaches to make them forget about. Early thoughts of a BCS bowl might turn into a “who cares” attitude in many. Still, they will not want to be embarrassed on national television and should be able to cover even f they only play hard for half a game.
