NCAA Football Betting Futures 2007 – AP Rankings Week 3

1. USC Trojans (2-0)

Sam Keller is like the gift that keeps on giving. He transfers from Arizona to Nebraska, and still can’t escape the Trojans who have happily received seven interceptions on his behalf. The Trojans dominated the second-half of the game, pummeling the fourteenth ranked Cornhuskers 49-31. The Trojans look to have found a marquee back in Stafon Johnson, who rushed for 144 yards on 11 carries. The Trojans look unstoppable.

Next game: Washington State vs. USC (-24)

2. LSU Tigers (3-0)

That wasn’t very nice, Tigers. Crushing Middle Tennessee 44-0 with a second string quarterback is just plain mean. Ryan Perrilloux threw for 20-of-26, 304 yards and three touchdowns filling in for Matt Flynn, while the Tigers defense shined allowing only nine rushing yards. Their competition gets significantly stiffer as the Tigers face spread busting Steve Spurrier and the Gamecocks next Saturday.

Next game: South Carolina vs. LSU (-16.5)

3. Florida Gators (3-0)

Every time I blinked during the Florida-Tennessee tilt last Saturday, it seemed like Tebow would score a touchdown. The Gators chomped Tennessee’s BCS bid chances by running and gunning in a 59-20 victory.

Next game: Florida (-21) vs. Missouri

4. Oklahoma Sooners (3-0)

Somebody stop Sam Bradford! Seriously. The kid had another fantastic weekend with 256 passing yards and three touchdowns, with only one pick as the Sooners blew apart Utah State 54-0. Their competition doesn’t get any more difficult as they are already 20.5 point favorites against Tulsa. The Bradford Heisman rally continues…

Next game: Oklahoma (-20.5) vs. Tulsa

5. West Virginia Mountaineers (3-0)

It must have been Devine intervention that helped the Mountaineers on Saturday! Oh wait, you mean every sportswriter in America used that line already? Damnit! Maryland tried, and failed, to stop Steve Slaton who put together a massive day in the 31-14 beatdown. The dynamic offense of WVU is worth a hop on the bandwagon.

Next game: East Carolina vs. West Virginia (-24.5)

6. California Golden Bears (3-0)

Look out, it’s the California Golden Bears in the top-7! Those who took the points against Louisiana Tech last week were pleasantly rewarded by Justin Forsett and the Bears who pasted Tech with twenty-one unanswered points in the second quarter. A two spot jump is well deserved, and it’s making that showdown with USC all the more interesting.

Next game: Arizona vs. California (-16)

7. Texas Longhorns (3-0)

Mark my words: Texas is going to lose a game very, very soon. They barely squeezed out a victory against lowly UCF. Jamaal Charles did all the work at tailback finishing with 153 yards and a game winning score in the fourth quarter. This offense lacks polish and closing power. Luckily they get Rice this weekend, but this Texas team is standing on some very shaky ground right now.

Next game: Rice vs. Texas (-38.5)

The Climbers

11. Rutgers Scarlet Knights (3-0)

Don’t sleep on Rutgers. Schiano and his smothering defense put on another clinic as they clubbed Norfolk State over the head like a baby seal. They are inching their way into the top-10, but will have to get past Maryland in two weeks. But don’t hesitate to get on the bandwagon in our NCAA football futures right now.

Next game: BYE WEEK

13. Oregon Ducks (3-0)

The Ducks are making noise behind Dennis Dixon, who is spearheading a piercing aerial attack that rocked Fresno State in a 52-21 victory. The defense is a little shaky, but a six point jump in the polls is hard to ignore. You can bet that Oregon’s high flying attack will have Stanford ducking for cover.

Next game: Oregon (-16.5) vs. Stanford

21. Kentucky Wildcats (3-0)

Andre Woodson is putting a Heisman worthy season together, and a wild victory over the Louisville Cardinals is just what this school needed to crack into the AP Rankings.

Next game: Kentucky vs. Arkansas (-6.5)

The Pretenders

Arkansas Razorbacks

Last year the Razorbacks stumbled towards the end of the season in tight games to get edged in BCS consideration. This year they wasted no time in ensuring that their season ends up in the dumps. After getting torched for 329 passing yards by unranked Alabama in a 41-38 loss, Darren McFadden and the boys have a steep hill to climb, and it begins this weekend against Kentucky.

Next game: Kentucky vs. Arkansas (-6.5)

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

To go from the number fifteen spot, to unranked tells you just how bad the loss to Boston College was. This team was showing a lot of poise, but a loss to BC has really killed their momentum. They have to get back on track against Virginia, but they are out of the hunt for the BCS.

Next game: Georgia Tech (-3) vs. Virginia
