NCAA Basketball Betting Mountain West Wagering - BYU at New Mexico
By Eric Williams
The Brigham Young Cougars, (21-6 SU, 12-10-1 ATS, 8-15 O/U), may be the nation’s 25th-ranked team at the moment, but the Cougars had their nine-game winning streak snapped in their last outing, losing at San Diego State 69-65 on Saturday while the unranked New Mexico Lobos, (22-6 SU, 20-6-1 ATS, 18-7-1 O/U), sport a better overall record and have won six consecutive games coming into this contest including a dramatic 72-71 victory at Mountain West rival Utah on Saturday.
Even more important for my beloved BetUS.com NCAA Basketball Betting Community is the fact that the Lobos have been nearly automatic against the spread lately, covering the spread in the same six straight games they have won and eight of their last ten.
The Cougars have also been solid against the spread lately, covering in seven of their last ten though they failed to pick up an ATS win in their last game against San Diego State.
The Cougars have three players averaging double figures in scoring and are averaging 74.8 points per game as a team on 46.1 percent shooting while allowing 63.4 points per game on 38.8 percent shooting. Junior guard Lee Cummard leads the team in scoring, averaging 16.2 points per game.
The Lobos have just two players averaging double figures in scoring and are averaging 75.0 points per game as a team on 47.3 percent shooting while allowing 62.6 points per game on 41.3 percent shooting. Senior guard J.R. Giddens leads the Lobos in scoring, averaging 15.1 points per game.
Here is a look at tonight’s Key Trends, followed by my NCAA Basketball Free Picks.
The Cougars are 5-0 ATS in their last five games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record.
The Cougars are 6-0-1 ATS in their last seven games following a S.U. loss.
The Lobos are 6-0 ATS in their last six vs. Mountain West.
The Lobos are 14-3-1 ATS in their last 18 games following a ATS win.
The Under is 7-1 in Cougars last eight road games vs. a team with a winning home record.
The Over is 8-1-1 in Lobos last ten games following a ATS win.
The Cougars are 5-0 ATS in the last five meetings.
The Over is 6-1 in the last seven meetings.
Analysis: While I like New Mexico t win this matchup, I genuinely believe this game is going to turn out to be a classic ‘last possession’ type of contest. Take the Cougars to cover the spread while making a case for the outright win.
