Bet on College Basketball - Clemson (24) at Duke (7)

The lone Top 25 battle on the college basketball schedule this weekend is an ACC showdown between the No. 24-ranked Clemson Tigers and the No. 7-ranked Duke Blue Devils. The Blue Devils have quite a successful history against the Tigers, but NCAAB bettors likely know that it hasn’t translated into bankroll profits.

The Tigers are coming off a 70-54 rout of N.C. State in which they were favored by 12 points. Clemson hit ten 3-pointers in the win, while shooting 45 percent from the floor overall. Cliff Hammonds led the Tigers with 14 points, five rebounds and five assists. Trevor Booker added 13 points, while Terrence Oglebsy netted 13 points, which included four 3-pointers.

Duke cruised past Florida State 70-57 as a 5.5-point favorite last time out. The Blue Devils actually trailed 55-54 at one point in the second half before completely dominating the rest of the game. Jon Scheyer led the Blue Devils back with a game-high 21 points, while Gerald Henderson poured in 11 points. Blue Devils’ leading scorer DeMarcus Nelson was held to only seven points on 2-of-6 shooting, but he did chip in with six rebounds.

If Clemson can find a way to upset the Blue Devils on Saturday, they’ll do something that hasn’t been done in more than a decade. To say that Duke has owned Clemson on the basketball court would be an understatement. Duke has won their last 21 games against the Tigers, stretching all the way back to 1997. The last time Clemson defeated Duke was Jan. 7, 1997. Even though Duke has rolled over the Tigers since 1997, they haven’t been a solid pick for bettors in those wins as they were only 10-10-1 ATS on the NCAAB odds.

Last season Duke and Clemson squared off twice and as you already know, the Blue Devils won both contests. In their first meeting the Blue Devils edged the Tigers 68-66 as a 6.5-point home favorite, while in the rematch Duke beat Clemson 71-66 as a 1-point road favorite.
