NCAA Basketball Betting - GEORGETOWN at MARQUETTE
by Charles Jay
The Georgetown Hoyas (23-4 SU, 10-14 ATS), who are looking like a possible #1 seed in the Big East tournament, will take a trip to Milwaukee on Saturday afternoon when they take on the Marquette Golden Eagles (21-6 SU, 13-9 ATS) in a conference matchup that could go a long way toward determining who is the higher seed in the Big Dance. Tipoff time at the Bradley Center is 2 PM ET.
Here are some of the NCAA basketball betting trends as they relate to this matchup:
* GEO has won 10 of its last 12 games SU
* GEO has covered two of its last eight games
* GEO has played nine of its last 11 games UNDER the total
* GEO is 3-3 SU in its last six road games SU
* GEO has covered four of its last ten road games
* MARQ has won its last five games SU
* MARQ has covered its last six games
* MARQ has played four of its last six games OVER the total
* MARQ has covered its last five road games
* MARQ has covered two of the last three meetings
* GEO has had the rebounding edge in each of the last three meetings
Georgetown is strong up front with Roy Hibbert, but that's not where Marquette wants to contest this game from their perspective. Remember a couple of things about the Eagles: for one thing, they are averaging 9.6 steals per game, and they're pretty good at taking care of the ball (12.6 TO's per game).
There is going to be something of a quickness edge on the Marquette side, with Dominic James holding an advantage over the Hoya backcourt. And if you look at Marquette's ledger, you'll see that after a rocky patch in late January and early February where the Eagles lost four conference games, they have reeled off five wins in a row, manhandling Pittsburgh and Rutgers at home.
But we will prefer the Hoyas in this one, mainly because of the size edge that will in all probability force the Eagles outside. Let's not forget that Georgetown has limited its opponents to less than 37% shooting, and they are the best in the country when it comes to field goal percentage defense. That's not necessarily all about intimidation, but about preventing teams from working the ball around to get a good shot.
We're going to take a small number here with Georgetown, the underdog in the BetUS NCAA college basketball betting odds.
