College Football Betting – Texas vs Texas A&M

by Charles Jay

LAST POINTSPREAD RESULT: On November 10, Texas beat Texas Tech 59-43, covering as a six-point home favorite and outdueling the Red Raiders offense with 551 yards to 476. That same day, A&M was beaten 40-26 by Missouri but covered as a 19.5-point road underdog. However, the Aggie defense surrendered 555 yards to Mizzou.

HEAD-TO-HEAD college football betting trends:

* TEXAS is 8-3-1 ATS in the last 12 meetings

* TEXAS has won six of the last seven meetings SU

* TEXAS has won four of the last six meetings at College Station

* Four of the last six meetings have gone UNDER the total

* TEXAS has not lost back-to-back games in the series since 1994

LAST MEETING: Texas quarterback Colt McCoy tossed three interceptions, then left the game on a stretcher, as the 'Horns suffered a 12-7 defeat as a 13.5-point home favorite. A&M gained 244 yards on the ground - the most allowed by Texas all year.

ABOUT TEXAS:

The Good News -- Running back Jamaal Charles has been dominant of late, gaining 644 rushing yards in the last three games. That has helped Texas elevate to 12th in the nation in total offense.

The Bad News -- The Longhorns have lost starting offensive linemen Dallas Griffin and Tony Hills for the season. And Colt McCoy, though 20th in the country in passing efficiency, has thrown 17 interceptions. Texas also ranks 103rd in the nation in pass defense, yielding almost 268 yards a game.

TEXAS TRENDS:

* TEXAS has covered four of its last six games

* TEXAS has won 16 of its last 17 road games SU

* TEXAS has covered two of its last seven road games

* TEXAS has played 12 of its last 14 road games OVER the total

* TEXAS is 5-0 ATS on the road when playing its last game of the season

ABOUT TEXAS A&M:

The Good News -- Aggie QB Stephen McGee, who has 927 gross rushing yards (before sacks) this season, has stepped things up through the air, completing 57% of his passes for 646 yards and four TD's with just one interception the last three games. Jorvorskie Lane and Mike Goodson have combined for 1251 rushing yards out of the backfield.

The Bad News -- The Aggies have lost three games in a row, albeit to three of the top ten teams in the country - Kansas, Oklahoma and Missouri. There have been no wins over true quality opponents. And the A&M defense has given up an average of 474 yards a game over the last five, and ranks 86th in the country overall.

TEXAS A&M TRENDS:

* A&M has played five of its last seven games UNDER the total

* A&M is on a 4-1-1 ATS run as a home dog

* A&M is 2-4 ATS in its last six games

* A&M has lost four of its last five games SU

THE BOTTOM LINE: Dennis Franchione is coming to the end of a tough reign in College Station, and one of the criticisms against him is that he is too conservative on offense. Stephen McGee is simply not dynamic enough to carry the offense on his shoulders. Texas can put up a lot of points in a hurry, and Jamaal Charles is one of the hottest running backs in the country. Colt McCoy is dying to redeem himself after last year's downer in Austin, and the Longhorns now have an opportunity to earn a trip to the Big 12 title game. Yes, the offensive line injuries have been a concern, but by all accounts Chris Hall has filled in beautifully up-front. A&M's defense, which as mentioned has yielded 474 yards a game over the last five, could put the team in a position where they have to play catch-up. And the Aggie offense is certainly not designed for that. We will lay the points with Texas, the 6.5-point favorite in the BetUS college football odds.
