The Lakers haven’t covered in their last two games against sub-par teams. Last night’s one point win versus the Memphis Grizzlies was particularly interesting as the Lakers were favored by over 11 points. Still, a win is a win to them. Last week this line would have been Lakers – 8 but because the Lakeshow has had two bad games in a row against the spread we get the Lakers under 6.

Let’s check out some spreads to see how the Lakers might fare tonight:

The Los Angeles Lakers are 4 and 0 against the spread in their last 4 games following 0 days of rest.

The Los Angeles Lakers are 6 and 1 against the spread in their last 7 games versus a team from the Western Conference.

The Seattle Supersonics are 4 and 0 against the spread in their last 4 games following a double-digit loss at home.

These trends point to a close game, but the line, under 6, might be cutting it too close for us NBA bettors. Before their two game losing streak against the spread, the Lakers had won both straight-up and against the spread in four straight games.

Not only that but the Lakers had gone 7 and 8 against the spread, their one loss coming versus the Boston Celtics, in their last eight games. That’s pretty impressive.

I suspect that the Lakers will get back to their winning ways against the spread tonight in Seattle. The Lakers love to play on the road and I do not believe that the injury to Andrew Bynum is as bad as some might think.

Bynum is day-to-day on the injury report. That means that if Phil Jackson, the Lakers’ coach, feels that Bynum can go and that they need Bynum, he will go.

The Lakers have an excellent shot at winning the Pacific Division outright this year. That means home-court advantage over some of the tougher teams in the NBA - - the Suns, Spurs, and Mavericks.

Home-court advantage would be huge for the Lakers. It’s not to early to think about winning the division outright. That means beating teams like the Sonics by double-digits.
