NBA Betting Action - Los Angeles (+ 6.5) vs. San Antonio (- 6.5)

The Lakers came back to their winning ways by throttling the Denver Nuggets by 17 points in their last game. It was also their first win against the spread in five straight games. Is this a sign that the Lakeshow is off the against the spread ?

The San Antonio spurs are only 2 and 3 against the spread in their last five. That makes this game very important as both teams look to establish some against the spread consistency.

Here are some other trends:

The Los Angeles Lakers are 4 and 0 against the spread in their last 4 games on the road as an UNDERDOG.

The San Antonio Spurs are 4 and 1 against the spread in their last 5 games on a Wednesday night.

The Los Angeles Lakers are 4 and 1 against the spread in their last 5 games in San Antonio.

The back-court of Derek Fisher and Kobe Bryant for the Lakers can do just enough to keep them close in this game. I’m convinced of this after watching what they did to the Denver Nuggets the other night.

This Laker team is different from last years’ team in the sense that an injury to a key player, Andrew Bynum in this case, is not going to destroy their season. Lamar Odom is playing very well, Luke Walton is the perfect utility player and as long as Kwame Brown just plays defense, the Lakers should be able to find enough open players in order to stick with the San Antonio Spurs.

The Spurs are not a very good against the spread team. They haven’t been all year. Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili, and Tony Parker are all excellent players and the Spurs can beat anybody in the NBA betting, but that doesn’t make them a good wager either at home or on the road. Since they are so dominant straight-up, the Spurs inevitably give up more points then they should.

The Spurs lost three games in a row before beating the Charlotte Bobcats in their last. I have the feeling that they may start another losing streak tonight.
