Basketball Betting: New Orleans (-3) vs. Portland (+3)
By D.S. Williamson
Who Dat Der Gonna Beat Dem Hornets? Who Dat? Okay, I’m just getting excited. Loving the city of New Orleans the way I do, I have to get excited when anything good happens to the folks down there.
I’ll answer the question later on this year because I don’t think it’s going to be the Trailblazers.
Don’t get me wrong, the Blazers have tons of talent. In fact, if Greg Oden hadn’t gotten hurt, I was going to pencil this team in for at least 50 wins. Alas, Mr. Oden did get hurt and the Blazers are stuck with a very young, talented, but not overly consistent bunch of college basketball stars. Jarrett Jacks will develop into a terrific point-guard. LeMarcus Aldridge only needs a stud like Oden to keep people off of him in the paint. Brandon Roy is a great utility player.
The only thing the Blazers are missing is a true star - - like Oden - - but that’s why they lose against one of the best coached teams in the NBA, the New Orleans Hornets.
Did I say best coached? I also meant to add best run. The floor general that is Chris Paul at the point makes all the difference for the Hornets. Every time the Lakers made it close last night, Paul and the Hornets found a way to increase the lead. They did it methodically. They did it without turning the ball over.
The bottom line is that it’s tough to win when you have to double-team a point-guard. If you don’t double-team Chris Paul, then you might be dead because Paul is smarter than you. Don’t argue. Just believe it. He’s way smarter.
Check out these NBA betting trends which show you how far the Hornets have come:
The New Orleans Hornets are 11-1-1 against the spread in their last 13 road games.
The New Orleans Hornets are also 4 – 0 against the spread so far in their first four games of the season.
What this tells me is that the odds-makers haven’t caught on to how good this team truly is. That’s why the spread against in this game, - 3, is so low.
The BetUS basketball betting line is New Orleans Hornets – 3 against the spread on the road versus the Portland Trailblazers.
Take the Hornets. They will lose and they won’t beat or cover a spread soon, but it won’t be this soon.
