The Suns are coming off of a three point loss to the San Antonio Spurs. They were favored by 7.5 points in that game. I’m wondering what’s going on with this spread as the BetUS spread of 14.5 points feels like an awful lot to give up to a Bobcats team that has a win versus the Boston Celtics. Phoenix is 7 and 3 against the spread in their last 10, however. So, maybe the BetUS spread is where it should be. The Charlotte Bobcats are 3 and 7 against the spread in their last 10. Yeah - - maybe the spread is correct.

Before we make the Suns the official pick, let’s look at some trends:

The Charlotte Bobcats are 5 and 14 against the spread in their last 19 games as an underdog on the road.

The Phoenix Suns are 6 and 1 against the spread in their last 7 games following a straight-up loss.

The FAVORITE is 5 and 1 against the spread in the last 6 meetings between these two teams.

The Charlotte Bobcats are 1 and 6 against the spread in the last 7 meetings between these two teams.

My problem, of course, is that I just hate giving up so many points. Yes, I understand that the Phoenix Suns are the much better team. Yes, I understand that the trends say the Suns will cover playing three against five tonight, but it pains me to give up over two touchdowns in an NBA game.

The BetUS line is freaking huge in this game. What to do? My gut tells me to go with the Bobcats, but contrary to popular opinion you shouldn’t always go with your gut as an NBA player.

The Suns do not have a single player on the injury report. That should have been enough for them to beat a Tony Parker less Spurs’ team this past weekend. They didn’t. I suspect that Nash and Co. will come out shooting threes and taking the Bobcats down in the first half. A twenty point lead should make things easier for the Suns in the second half.

Even though the BetUS basketball point-spread is high and my gut tells me to take the Bobcats and the points, the trends and my brain say Suns all the way.

I’ve got to bet on the Suns in this one.
