NBA Odds - Memphis Grizzlies vs. Phoenix Suns
By D.S. Williamson
Memphis Grizzlies (+ 14.5) vs. Phoenix Suns (- 14.5)
Tip-off: 10:00 pm EST.
The Suns looked much better against the San Antonio Spurs this past Sunday. Not only did they beat the BetUS spread, but they also won straight-up. The Suns are now 18 games above .500. Against the BetUS spread they are somewhat worse - - 28-33-2 on the year with an away record of 16-14-1. Luckily for the Suns they get to play one of the worst teams in the NBA both straight-up and against the BetUS spread.
In their past ten games, the Memphis Grizzlies have gone 1 and 9 against the BetUS spread. Overall this year the Memphis Grizzlies are 13 and 20 against the BetUS spread at home. Here are more trends:
The Memphis Grizzlies are 2 and 5 against the spread in their lat 7 games playing on 2 days of rest.
The Phoenix Suns are 4 and 0 against the spread in their last 4 games on a Tuesday night.
The Memphis Grizzlies are 4 and 1 against the spread in their last 5 games against the Suns in Phoenix.
The Road Team is 8 and 3 against the spread in the last 11 meetings between these two teams.
Can the Phoenix Suns put together two big games in a row? There is no doubt in my mind that the Suns will win this game straight-up but giving up 14 ½ points is an awful lot to swallow. These are the Phoenix Suns we’re talking about here - - not the Los Angeles Lakers.
The Suns just don’t like to cover spreads. They didn’t like to cover spreads before the Shaq trade and have gotten a lot worse since the Shaq trade. Not cool, Becky.
Of course, the Suns are playing one of the worst teams in the NBA. In their last game the Grizzlies lost to the Boston Celtics by 30 points. Within their past 10 games the Grizzlies have lost to the Chicago Bulls by 15 points, the Dallas Mavericks by 15, the Cleveland Cavaliers by 20 and to both the Utah Jazz and Houston Rockets by 21 points.
Is it too much of a stretch to think that the new look Suns will win this game by 20 points? Not really.
The BetUS line is
Phoenix Suns – 14.5 against the spread on the road versus the
Memphis Grizzlies.
It pains me to say this, but I think the Suns cover this game. That would make it two games in a row for Phoenix.
