NBA Free Picks 2008 – Knicks To Take On Backups In Detroit
By Tim Furious
New York Knicks (21-56) vs. Detroit Pistons (55-21)
Wednesday, April 8th --- Palace of Auburn Hills, Detroit --- 7:30pm EST
NBA Betting Line: Detroit -10.5 (194.0)
Yep the Knicks are teasing the sports betting community again. They’re 5-1 ATS in their past 6 games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games on the road. Sure all of those games have been losses, but who in the hell is dumb enough to take the Knicks moneyline these days? Not any of my BetUS sportsbook readers I hope.
The line is moving away from Detroit because nobody really knows for sure who Detroit is going to throw out on the hardwood. Jamiel Maxwell is getting more playing time to see if he can be a legitimate backup to Antonio McDyess in the playoffs. Detroit hasn’t lost in its past five games, and they’re 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games at home. The line is adjusting, but that doesn’t make the Pistons any easier to read.
And everyone loves the Knicks against Detroit because of their past two meetings. The Knicks throttled Detroit 89-65 in their January dance, and then held on to lose by just four points 101-97 just a month ago. Now, the Knicks are coming off their first win in what seems like forever and have some gentle momentum heading in to Motown.
That doesn’t mean you should bet on them.
Detroit is nasty at home. They haven’t lost a game at the Palace in over two weeks and are 11-3 SU when playing New York over the past 14 meetings. And while you can expect Zach Randolph, Nate Robinson and David Lee to move with a bit more pep in their step with new management in tow, but the Pistons are still an extremely difficult team to play because their bench is full of solid role players.
It’s not like Detroit is just going to hand the rival Knicks an easy win, and revenge is a dish best served at home. Look for Detroit in the blowout. Don’t get fooled like the rest of the batting community in to thinking, “The Knicks always play Detroit HARD!” That’s silly. It was two games. Get over it.
