NBA Basketball Betting – San Antonio at Seattle
By Charles Jay
WHO: San Antonio Spurs (28-15 SU, 20-23 ATS) at Seattle SuperSonics (9-35 SU, 20-23-1 ATS)
WHERE: Key Arena in Seattle
WHEN: Tuesday, January 29 at 10 PM ET
BetUS NBA basketball betting odds: SAN ANTONIO -7.5, Total 194
In the HEAD-to-HEAD NBA betting trends:
* SA has won the last six meetings SU
* SA has covered the last five meetings
* The last three meetings have gone OVER the total
* Seven of the last ten meetings have gone OVER the total
* SA has had the shooting edge in five of the last six meetings
* SA has had the rebounding edge in nine of the last ten meetings
* SA has made more three-pointers in nine of the last ten meetings
San Antonio is careful with the ball, turning it over just 12.2 times a game. The Spurs, the defending NBA champs, have guarded the perimeter pretty well, holding its opponents to 5.1 three-pointers a contest. And they're allowing 91.8 points a game on the road. Also:
* SA has lost seven of its last ten road games SU
* SA has covered five of its last 20 games
* SA has covered one of its last eight road games
* SA has played its last eight games UNDER the total
* SA has played nine of its last ten road games UNDER the total
Seattle has scooped up 45 rebounds a game, second in the league. the Sonics are yielding 105 points per outing, and hit just 4.3 shots from beyond the arc on average. Also:
* SEA is 4-7-1 ATS in its last 12 games
* SEA has lost its last 14 games SU
* SEA has played 10 of its last 15 games UNDER the total
* SEA has covered six of its last nine home games
* SEA has lost its last six home games SU
* SEA has played five of its last seven home games UNDER the total
San Antonio has been dominant over Seattle since the outset of last season, winning five straight by an average of 25 ppg. And few would argue that this year's Seattle edition is a step or two down from last year's, as they transition with younger players, particularly the erratic-shooting Kevin Durant.
But the Spurs have been missing numbers in a big way, dropping 15 of its last 20 against the number, seven of its last eight on the road, and seven of eight playing the back end of back-to-backs. They just have not been exceeding expectations. And they have scored just 89 points a game over their last eight.
Under the circumstances, perhaps the best way to look is to the total. We know that both teams have been trending in the same direction (San Antonio playing its last eight "under," while Seattle 10 of last 15 "under."). Considering the Spurs surrender just 94 ppg on the road, and no doubt will have a defensive plan to stifle Durant, Seattle's only real scoring option (and a self-centered on at that), we're going to move UNDER the 194 points as it is posted in the BetUS NBA basketball betting odds.
JAY'S PLAY: UNDER 194
