NBA Betting - LA Lakers vs. Detroit Pistons
By Mike Rose
Kobe and the (28-15) Los Angeles Lakers invade the Motor City this evening to take on Chauncey Billups and the (32-13) Detroit Pistons. The Lakers currently sit 3.5-games in back of the Phoenix suns for the lead in the Pacific Division of the Western Conference, while the Pistons sit perched atop the Central Division of the Eastern Conference with a 6.5-game lead over the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Lakers have won 11 of their 19 road games this year and boast a winning mark against the NBA betting line ringing in at 10-8-1 ATS. The Pistons have been the victor in 15 of their 19 home games this season, and covered the spread in 13 of those games.
The Lakers were last in action on Tuesday night at home when they knocked off the NY Knicks 120-109 as 9-point home favorites. Kobe Bryant led all scorers with 24 points, but Lamar Odom was right behind him with 22 and Sasha Vujacic also hit the 20-point mark. The Lakers trailed for most of the game but tied it up with 5 minutes left, and then went on a 10-0 run to end the game ultimately allowing Los Angeles backers a gift cover. The game was the final one for the Lakers before they begin a nine-game road trip starting tonight in Detroit - their longest trip in the NBA's modern era. The Lakers have won 6 of their L/10 overall, but only churned out three spread wins for their backers during that stretch. Potential Lakers backers take note: Kobe and crew are 4-1-1 ATS their L/6 as road underdogs.
As for the Pistons, we last saw them escape Indiana with a 6-point road win, but they failed to cover the 7.5-point spread in the 110-104 victory. The victory was their third in a row and second in a row on the road. The Pistons have also won 6 of their L/10 overall games, but they’ve also cost their backers during that stretch managing just four covers. That being said, they’ve cashed 7 of the L/8 times they were installed a home favorite of 5.5-10 points. They’ll be looking to avenge their loss at the Lakers earlier this season.
Oddsmakers have deemed the Pistons 7.5-points better then the Lakers in this spot with the ‘Total’ set at 197. You can find both of those numbers currently at BetUS.com. The Lakers come in a combined 17-17 (50%) ATS on the road vs. +.500 Eastern Conference opponents, while the Pistons are also a solid 24-11 (69%) ATS combined at home vs. +.500 Western Conference opponents. The Pistons have recently dominated this series winning 8 of the L/10 SU. The home team has covered the spread in 7 of the L/10 meetings, and the Lakers have gone a woeful 3-11-1 ATS the L/15 times they’ve squared off against Detroit.
