NBA Betting - Denver Nuggets vs. Seattle Supersonics

Just when everybody thought that the Denver Nuggets, their cup runneth over with talent, had turned the corner they go and pull a 0 and 3 record straight-up and against the BetUS spread in their last 3 games. Denver has actually gone 4 and 6 against the BetUS spread in their last 10 games. That makes them a pretty bad wager against - - well, almost everybody. They give up too many points when they play the also-rans and don’t get enough points when they play the elite teams in the Western Conference. The Seattle Supersonics are one of those also-rans but have been doing much better against the BetUS spread going 6 and 4 in their last 10 games than the Nuggets.

The Denver Nuggets are 7 and 1 against the spread in their last 8 games as a favorite of between 5 to 10.5 points.

The Seattle Supersonics are 6 and 1 against the spread in their last 7 games following a straight-up loss.

The FAVORITE is 7 and 1 against the spread in the last 8 meetings between these two teams.

The Nuggets need a win and they need it badly. Usually I would be writing the praises of the Seattle Supersonics, how the Nuggets have no heart, and how the Sonics are just good enough and hungry enough to get a huge win at home versus Denver.

That’s how much I think of Denver - - not much. But I can’t go against them in this spot. The reason is simple - - while the Supersonics are a young team willing to take their lumps versus their veteran brethren, the Nuggets are an older team that has no choice but to win. They have to win this game. They have lost three games in a row. Allen Iverson knows this. Carmelo Anthony knows this. Coach Karl knows this.

The Nuggets cannot afford to play sloppy and just hope that their superior talent brings them a victory tonight. They have to go out there and dominate. The truth about Denver is that they can dominate teams if they have both their minds and their hearts in the game.

That’s what it comes down to. If the Nuggets try, which they don’t do all of the time, they can beat the Supersonics by a double-digit score tonight.

Because what looked like a rest on their laurels game has suddenly become an important game for them to win, I have to side with the Nuggets in this one.
