Basketball Wagering Action - Clippers (+ 14) vs. Suns (- 14)
By D.S. Williamson
The Phoenix Suns throttled the Los Angeles Clippers last night beating them by 20 points. Can they get on a plane, drop into Phoenix, and do the same thing to the Clippers tonight? The NBA betting line went from Suns – 8 last night to Suns – 14 tonight because the Suns are at home in this affair.
That may or may not mean anything. Let’s look at some trends to figure it out:
The Phoenix Suns are 5 and 6 against the spread at home so far this year.
The Los Angeles Clippers are 7 and 7 against the spread in their away games so far this year.
The Phoenix Suns are 2 and 8 against the spread in their last 10 Friday night games.
Give them a day of rest and Phoenix probably beats the Clippers by 20 to 30 points in this game, but a back-to-back is not in the Suns favor. They are an old team, the Phoenix Suns, with both Grant Hill and Steve Nash well into their 30s.
Let’s not forget that Amare Stoudemire, although having less knee issues than last year, still can’t play a full 45 minute game. Considering that Amare was lights out last night, he had 30 points and 15 rebounds, I have the feeling that the real Amare may not come to play tonight.
Suns Coach Mike D’Antoni will be well aware of how hard his two stars, Nash and Stoudemire, are playing in this one. He might pull them for the entire fourth quarter depending on how far ahead the Suns are in this affair.
For the Clippers, there only goal is to keep sliding by until the return of Elton Brand. Even with Elton back, the chances of this team making the playoffs is very slim. The Western Conference, like always, is loaded this year. So, the Clippers will have to make about a 20 game run to get themselves back in it.
No worries. All they have to do in this game is keep the two old men, Grant Hill and Steve Nash, in check and keep Amare off the boards and out of the paint. My feeling is that D’Antoni will help them as he has a good idea of how much energy the Suns need to expend just to get a 10 point win.
The BetUS NBA betting line is Los Angeles Clippers + 14 against the spread on the road versus the Phoenix Suns.
The point spread is too high on a Suns team that will be looking to coast in this game without wasting too much energy. We’re looking at around an 8 point win for the Suns in this one.
