It looks like it’s going to be quite a battle in the Western Conference during the NBA playoffs. Maybe that’s why the Boston Celtics are currently favored to win the NBA title. The fact that the Celtics own the best record in the league, as any smart NBA betting fan would know, is also a big reason why the Celts are standing atop the heap on the current futures odds list.

The Celtics entered play on Thursday night with the best record in the NBA at 60-15, and on top of the NBA Championship futures odds list at +175. Already missing big man Andrew Bynum, the Lakers also ended up dealing with ailments to Pau Gasol, Derek Fisher and Lamar Odom. With Gasol now back on the court and Bynum on the way, the Lakers should be at full strength once the postseason arrives making them tough to handle for any of the stellar squads in the west.

One of those stellar squads, the San Antonio Spurs are next on the NBA odds list. The defending champs are on a nice run right now, having won their last eight games to challenge New Orleans for first place in the Western Conference. The Spurs have strung together a few lengthy winning streaks during the season and if they can get on a run in the postseason they could easily bring another title back to Texas.

We already mentioned the Hornets briefly, and if you’re looking for a value pick on the odds list it could be New Orleans at +1000 to win the title. The Hornets are the top team in the Western Conference right now and they’ve beaten all the top teams at least once this season, including the Celtics and the Lakers. That kind of track record makes them a definite contender, and a possible boom for bettors who lock in now.
