NBA Basketball Betting – Power Poll Week 24 - Part Two
By Mike Rose
(CURRENT) (TEAM) (W/L OVERALL & W/L FOR WEEK) (ATS RECORD) (LAST WEEKS RANK)
16) Atlanta Hawks (36-42/1-2) (36-41-1 ATS) (LW: 15) The Hawks are in a dogfight with Indiana for the 8th and final seed in the East. They currently sit two games ahead of the Pacers and get the benefit of playing NY and Miami along with what should be a pair of teams just going through the motions in Orlando and Boston at home to close out their regular season schedule. Two wins should be enough to get the Hawks back into the post-season for the first time in a decade.
17) Toronto Raptors (39-39/1-2) (38-39-1 ATS) (LW: 17) Just take a look at the Raptors season long marks SU and ATS and you’ll get a picture of just how mediocre this club really is. They’ve failed to build off of their first divisional championship from a year ago, and should be cannon fodder for its first round match-up in the post-season.
18) Indiana Pacers (34-44/3-0) (37-40-1 ATS) (LW: 20) The Pacers still have a mathematical chance of securing the 8th seed in the East, but does anyone really want to see this awful club get smoked by the Celtics? I sure don’t, so let’s all hope they continue losing so a team that’s 10-games under .500 doesn’t make the playoffs. Man the east stinks out loud!!!
19) Portland Trailblazers (39-39/1-2) (40-38 ATS) (LW: 18) We won’t get to see this club battle in the post-season this year, but let it be known now that Portland will become one of the premiere teams in the West once Mr. Oden finds his way to the Rose Garden. He and Brandon Roy will form one of the deadliest duos the league will offer for many years down the road.
20) Sacramento Kings (36-42/2-2) (41-36-1 ATS) (LW: 19) The Kings have been out of the playoff picture for weeks now, but that doesn’t mean they’re done for the year. They have a chance to screw the seeding in the Western Conference up royally when they host the Hornets and Spurs, and then travel to the Staples Center to face the Lakers in their final game of the season. Easier said than done, but Head Coach Theus’ men have done a solid job of late winning 5 of 10 SU and going 6-4 ATS. They always seem to put forth big efforts vs. the premiere teams and lay down against the dogs, so NO, SA, and LA best be on top of their games.
21) Charlotte Bobcats (30-49/2-2) (33-44-2 ATS) (LW: 21) The Bobcats strung together a 2-2 SU and 1-3 ATS mark this week, but it could have been better with tough SU and ATS loss to the Knicks. The Bobcats have been playing much better ball of late, so look for them to keep playing at this level hoping to gain more confidence and experience for next years campaign.
22) New Jersey Nets (32-46/1-2) (31-45-2 ATS) (LW: 22) The Nets still have a mathematical chance of qualifying for the post-season, but do you really think that’s going to happen? If it does, they will have won three road games and taken care of the Bobcats at home. Kansas will probably win a National Championship in hoops before that happens, oh wait….maybe there is hope for VC and the Nets.
23) Chicago Bulls (30-48/1-3) (33-45 ATS) (LW: 23) The Bulls let every pre-season prognosticator down this past week when they went into Miami and lost outright as 12-point road chalks. The loss ended the Bulls hopes of making the playoffs for the fourth straight season, and made everyone that thought the Bulls would make it to the Eastern Conference Finals this year look stupid. Thank you Chicago for your body of work in 2007-08. John Paxson, you have work to do!!!
24) Milwaukee Bucks (26-52/0-4) (34-44 ATS) (LW: 24) The Bucks resorted back to the style of play they’ve exhibited all season long and went 0-4 SU and 2-2 ATS. Scratch what I said about them playing with some gusto to close out the year last week…
25) Minnesota Timberwolves (19-59/0-4) (36-41-1 ATS) (LW: 25) posted last week: They travel to the land of the sun to take on Phoenix to start this week, and have a chance to pick up their 20th win of the season against both Memphis and Charlotte to close it out. They’re still sitting on 19, but they might be able to get win #20 this week with Memphis and Milwaukee on the schedule to close out their painful 2007-08 campaign.
26) NY Knicks (23-56/3-1) (37-41-1 ATS) (LW: 28) Don’t look now, but the Knicks are on a three game winning streak and they’ve covered 7 of their L/10 overall. Too bad the seasons over for Isaiah and company, or maybe not….
27) Seattle Supersonics (18-61/1-3) (37-39-3 ATS) (LW: 26) The Sonics threw a wrench in Denver’s post-season plans by avenging the 168-116 shellacking they absorbed in the Pepsi Center by knocking them off 151-147 in double-overtime.
Look for that to be their last win of the year with them closing the week out against San Antonio, Dallas, and Golden State.
28) LA Clippers (23-55/0-3) (32-46 ATS) (LW: 27) The Clippers only have seven games left in their nightmarish 2007-08 season, which gives Elton Brand the opportunity to get back in the swing of things before he can immediately start rehabbing again. yeah!!!
29) Memphis Grizzles (21-57/1-2) (34-43-1 ATS) (LW: 29) The Grizzlies will be the only team in the Southwest not to qualify for the post-season. Maybe management should get in David Stern’s ear and ask if they can be moved to the Eastern Confernece
30) Miami Heat (14-64/1-2) (31-46-1 ATS) (LW: 30) Wow is all I can say about what transpired in South Beach this past season….WOW!!!!!
