MLB Betting - Chicago Cubs vs. San Francisco Giants

by Mike Rose

The “Cub Nation” let out an enormous sigh of relief after they pummeled the San Francisco Giants 9-2 in last nights MLB online gambling affair. The night belonged to both Mark DeRosa, who took the place of Aramis Ramirez at third base, and Ted Lilly who made his 18th start of the season. Lilly won his fourth straight decision to improve his mark to 9-5 overall by throwing eight innings of two run ball while K’ing five and walking a pair. DeRosa went yard twice, which included his third career grand slam in the 8th-inning to blow the game wide open ultimately allowing run-line bettors to cash an easy ticket. "Lilly gave us a big game on the mound and DeRosa gave us a big game with the bat," manager Lou Piniella said. "It was a good win for us." The victory improved the Cubs overall mark to 50-33 on the year and allowed them to remain 2.5-games in front of the St. Louis Cardinals in the NL Central who did some bludgeoning of their own last night in their 7-1 home win over the NY Mets. Chicago now stands 17-23 on the road costing MLB bettors $653.00 on the year. The Giants are a very strange team. Unlike the rest of the league, the Giants are more comfortable away from home where they’re 22-22 bringing in $658.00 dollars of pure baseball profit to the betting public. Playing at home is a different story however as the Giants have managed wins in just 14 of their 39 overall home games and carry a gross loss of $1114.00 overall. In their 13 home games dating back to May 30, the Giants won just three and they’re 8-20 their L/28 within AT&T Park.

Jason Marquis suffered his first loss in the month of June his last time out against the Baltimore Orioles who shellacked him to the tune of seven hits and seven earned runs in just four innings of work. It was the second straight start in which he allowed more than five earned runs, and he looks to be pitching for his job with the Cubs as Piniella looks to have grown tired of his inconsistency. He enters his turn in the rotation 6-4 overall with a 4.96 ERA and 1.52 WHIP. He’s 2-1 with a bloated 6.50 ERA and 1.39 WHIP over his L/3 starts allowing a total of 13 runs and 18 hits in only 18 innings of work. The Cubs have won four of his seven road starts this year, and that number could increase with Marquis a perfect 3-0 with a 2.12 ERA and 0.98 WHIP in four career starts against the Giants.

Opposing the right-hander will be the Giants Matt Cain who enters tonight’s start 4-6 on the year with a 4.44 ERA and 1.36 WHIP. He’s allowed 99 hits and 54 runs (52 earned) with a K/BB ratio of 97/44 in just over 105 total innings of work. He just didn’t have his best stuff his last time out in a 4-1 loss at Cleveland where he surrendered eight hits and four earned runs in just five innings of work. The poor effort snapped a string of three consecutive quality starts where he was 2-1 with a 2.95 ERA and struck out a whopping 25 batters while only walking three in close to 22 overall innings of work. He’s 3-2 with a 4.09 ERA and 1.09 WHIP in five career starts against the Cubs, and the Giants have won two of his three home starts which includes a 4-1 win where he threw seven innings of one-run ball last season.

Oddsmakers opened the Giants short –120 home favorites in today’s baseball betting affair, with the ‘total’ set at 8 under -120. BetUS.com offers all MLB betting odds be it side, total, or run-line, so be sure to login to your account and get your wagers down before this evening’s first pitch.
