MLB Sportsbook Baseball Betting - N.Y. Mets at Florida Marlins

by Charles Jay

BetUS MLB betting odds: N.Y. Mets -160, Florida +140, Total 9.5 (Under -125, Over +105)

The New York Mets (1-1) are coming off a disappointment last night and will try to rebound on Wednesday when they square off against the Florida Marlins (1-1) in a National League hookup that will begin at 7:10 PM ET at Dolphin Stadium (natural turf)

Lefties oppose each other here, as New York's Oliver Perez takes to the mound against Andrew Miller of the Marlins.

At BetUS Sportsbook, New York is listed as a -160 favorite (Florida is +140), with a total of 9.5 runs (Under -125, Over +105).

Here are some of the MLB Baseball betting trends as they relate to this matchup:

(NOTE: These trends also revert back to the 2007 season)

* NY has lost seven of its last nine games

* NY has won four of its last five road games

* FLA has won six of its last eight games

* FLA has won four of its last five home games

In the HEAD-TO-HEAD baseball betting trends:

* NY has won 11 of the last 13 meetings as the road team

* Seven of the last ten meetings have gone OVER the total

* Four of the last six meetings in Miami have gone OVER the total

The Mets got a double-downer on Tuesday, as not only did they lose to the Marlins 5-4 in extra innings, when Robert Andino hit a walk-off home run, but it also appears they may have lost starting pitcher Pedro Martinez for a couple of weeks.

Tonight they get a start from Oliver Perez, who posted a sizzling 2.69 ERA in his first ten starts last year, and though he slumped a bit, still wound up 15-10 after going 3-13 the year before. And his WHIP ratio dropped from 1.75 in 2006 to 1.31 last season.

But Perez has a history of being erratic. Can he be counted on again this year? It's important for the Mets, who may not be able to bank on an injury-free year from the aforementioned Martinez.

Lefty Andrew Miller, who came over from Detroit when the Marlins dealt away Dontrelle Willis and Miguel Cabrera, gets the call from Florida. Miller is touted as a future ace, and has major league stuff, but he has had a lot of trouble controlling it, as he walked 39 batters in just 64 innings last season, chalking up a very permissive 1.75 WHIP (walks + hits per innings pitched), which means that for every four innings, he allowed seven men to get on base. Please note what we said a couple of days ago - that the Mets hit .285 against left-handers last year.

We're going to make a move with the total here. And we like the game to go OVER the 9.5 runs (at a price of +105) as it is posted in the BetUS Major League Baseball betting odds.

JAY'S PLAY: OVER 9.5 (+105)
