MLB Online Baseball Betting Odds - Seattle at Cleveland
By Charles Jay
BetUS MLB baseball betting odds: Cleveland -190, Seattle +160; Total 8.5 (Under -120, Over - Even)
The Seattle Mariners (13-14) will try to climb back to the .500-mark, but they're going to have their work cut out for them in that regard on Wednesday night when they play the second in their three-game set against the Cleveland Indians (12-15) in American League action scheduled for 7:05 PM ET at Progressive Field in Cleveland.
Southpaws oppose each other, as Jarrod Washburn (1-3, 4.03 ERA) of the Mariners goes up against the red-hot Cliff lee (4-0, 0.28 ERA) of the Indians.
At BetUS Sportsbook, Cleveland is listed as a -190 favorite (Seattle is +160), with a total of 8.5 runs (the Under is -120, with the Over at even money).
Here are some of the MLB Baseball betting trends as they relate to this matchup:
(NOTE: These trends may also revert back to the 2007 season)
* SEA has lost four of its last six games
* SEA has played six of its last nine games UNDER the total
* SEA has won four of its last six road games
* CLEV has played four of its last six games UNDER the total
* CLEV has lost nine of its last 13 home games
In the HEAD-TO-HEAD baseball betting trends:
* SEA has won the last three meetings
* Nine of the last 13 meetings have gone UNDER the total
* Three of the last four meetings in Cleveland have gone OVER the total
Seattle won the first game of this three-game series on Tuesday night with a 7-2 victory. Adrian Beltre hit a three-run homer to power the Mariners in that one. The Indians have now scored four runs in their last three contests.
Jarrod Washburn did a pretty good job for the M's in filling in as a late replacement for Erik Bedard when he took the ball against Baltimore six days ago. giving up just two runs in five innings. The veteran has pitched well enough to keep his team in just about every game, but on a couple of occasions he has been a victim of non-support. His control has been excellent, as he has walked just five of the 112 batters he has faced. Still, the opposition has hit a robust .304 against him, with a slugging percentage of .482.
We save the best for last. And we mean that.
Cleveland's starter, Cliff Lee, has been quite simply the most overwhelming pitcher in the game thus far. A veteran of six previous seasons who went 18-5 for the Indians in 2005, Lee has allowed opposing teams to hit .109, with a microscopic .139 slugging percentage, ONE earned run and ELEVEN hits in 31-2/3 innings, with 29 strikeouts, just two walks, a 0.28 ERA and a 0.41 WHIP ratio. Lee, who finished fourth in the Cy Young voting three years ago, looks like he's headed for greater heights this season, as he leads the American League in virtually every important pitching category.
Lee has thrown 68% of his pitches for strikes, has gotten an 0-2 count on 26% of the hitters he's been up against, and has allowed the first hitter to reach base in only four innings. We don't normally like to lay this kind of price, but Lee's been so dominant that we don't see any other side to go with.
So with the home crowd behind him, we'll go with Cliff Lee and the Indians, the -190 favorite in the BetUS Major League Baseball betting odds.
JAY'S PLAY: CLEVELAND (-190)
