MLB Betting Season Preview- Big Changes For Some Teams Should Mean Cha-Ching!

The MLB Regular Season is upon us! It’s time to take a look at some of the expected hot teams this year in Major League Baseball and how they should do against the BetUS spreads this year.

We’ll also take a look at a few pitchers that should spell “money” to all of us MLB bettors this season. Following pitchers is a great way to increase your bankroll. Of course, this involves putting up more money than what you might be used to when betting basketball or football, but riding a winning pitcher for an entire season could be well worth the gamble.

Let’s get to it!

Major League Baseball Regular Season

Teams to Keep an Eye On!

American League

Boston Red Sox - - The Sox were hot, hot, hot against the BetUS spread last year. If you had wagered on every Red Sox game during the entire season your win percentage would have been awesome. Of course, because the Red Sox are usually favored in every single MLB wager available on BetUS, you’d have to put up quite a few dollars to make little profit. Still, the Red Sox are a great bail-out team. So, keep them in mind.

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim - - This is the second best team to wager on in Major League Baseball. Like the Sox, they will be favored in a majority of their games this season, but unlike the Sox, you shouldn’t have to put nearly as much money to turn a profit on the Angels. They’ve got the bats. They’ve got the pitching. They should make a good run for the pennant this year.

Detroit Tigers - - Manager Jim Leyland picked up Miguel Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis. The best manager in the major leagues now has two all-star players to go with his already talented team. I love Detroit this season. I think Willis can dominate the heavy-hitters in the A.L. at good odds to boot!

** What about?

Cleveland Indians - - They’re a good team, but they aren’t an automatic wager in the American League. Think of them long and hard as that team you bet on when they are getting odds from the Top-Three. Sabathia’s great, but after that…

New York Yankees - - I don’t like these guys this year. Any wager on the Yankees in practically any game this season should be thought of long and hard.

National League

Chicago Cubs - - The key will be Kerry Wood as a closer. Heck, the key will be Kerry Wood staying healthy. Carlos Zambrano needs to bounce back in a big way, but the Cubs do have the bats to contend. Which means that they will probably be a good bet to win the majority of their games in the weak National League.

New York Mets - - If Pedro doesn’t get hurt and is even 60% of what he used to be, then these guys could win a lot - - I mean a lot - - of games. Of course, if Pedro does get hurt or for some reason just doesn’t play as well as he used to then, these guys are a serious underlay. I’m taking a wait and see approach Johan Santana.

Los Angeles Dodgers - - I’m not in love with their pitchers, but I do think that adding Andruw Jones and Joe Torre to manage might be enough for them to win the N.L. West.

Arizona Diamondbacks - - I love how they picked up Dan Haren from the Oakland A’s. Brandon Webb is turning into a shut-down type pitcher and Haren adds another ace. That makes the Diamondbacks my super-duper team to watch this season. Get on these guys early. They could dominate the N.L.

** What About?

St. Louis Cardinals - - They could be a surprise team but I doubt it. Too many off the field issues for me to recommend.

Atlanta Braves - - I expect a down year from the usual stalwart Braves. The pitching isn’t there like it has been historically and the loss of Jones will definitely hurt.

San Diego Padres - - Jake Peavy can shut you down, but these are the Padres. That’s enough for me to pass on them in a lot of games this year.

Colorado Rockies - - Overrated last year. Overrated this year. These guys got lucky. It shouldn’t happen again.

You Can’t Go Wrong Betting on These Pitchers!

Josh Beckett for the Red Sox

Pedro Martinez (if he’s healthy!) for the New York Mets

Dontrelle Willis for the Detroit Tigers

Josh Haren and Brandon Webb for the Arizona Diamondbacks

Jake Peavy for the San Diego Chargers

C.C. Sabathia for the Cleveland Indians
