MLB Baseball Betting – Rockies vs. Astros- Mariners vs. Angels
By D.S Williamson
The Rockies take their game to Houston for a Saturday match-up against the woeful Houston Astros. I feel bad for the Rockies. Yes, they did pull out a win in the 22nd inning of their Thursday marathon versus the San Diego Padres, but now they have to travel to Houston on Friday to take on the Astros. After that game, they get the pleasure of battling superstar in the making Astros’ pitcher Wandy Rodriguez. Okay, Rodriguez is 29 years old. So, he may have missed the superstar boat, but nobody can argue against his stats so far this season. In three games, Rodriguez has given up only 5 runs off of 16 hits. He’s also struck out 19 batters.
The Rockies will counter with Aaron Cook. First, I have to give Jeff Francis his due. I wrote some nasty things about Mr. Francis earlier this week. He was excellent against the Padres on the road in that Thursday night marathon. Francis gave up only one run in 7 innings of work. I won’t write any nasty things about Aaron Cook because he has actually been decent this season. Cook has given up 16 hits and 8 runs in 19 innings of work.
Let’s take a look at my personal wager lines.
Colorado Rockies
Aaron Cook – R + 1 ½ - 145 + 135 O 7 ½
Houston Rockets
Wandy Rodriguez - 1 ½ + 155 - 165 U 7 ½
I could be way off in this game. I do believe that Rodriguez will go in as the favorite and that the Astros will be favored to win this game straight-up. The only thing is that I might be giving the Astros too much credit in this game.
If the Colorado Rockies are anywhere near + 135 to win this game straight-up, then they are the bet. The Rockies should falter some on Friday night. On Saturday night they should be ready to roar again against one of the worst batting teams in the National League.
Even though the Astros have two solid pitchers in Rodriguez and Roy Oswalt, rarely do those pitchers get the all important run support needed to win games. The Astros have scored six runs twice this season and seven runs only once.
The Rockies don’t score that many runs either so the BetUS under wager is a definite possibility.
But I’m hoping that the BetUS line will show the Rockies as a straight-up underdog in this game. If that happens, then that’s the way I will go.
Sunday - Seattle Mariners vs. Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim
In the final game of their weekend series against the Seattle Mariners, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim will send Dustin Moseley to the mound. Moseley hasn’t been all that great so far this season. In three games and fifteen innings, Moseley has given up 22 hits, 13 runs and 3 home-runs. He has an ERA of 7.80. He’s only struck-out 10 batters in those three games. To say that Moseley isn’t “on” is an understatement.
The Mariners counter with Miguel Batista. Batista isn’t exactly the next coming of Randy Johnson either. In four games and seventeen innings Batista has given up 22 hits, 13 runs and 1 home-run. Batista’s ERA is 6.35. Neither one of these guys, Batista or Moseley, appears capable of bringing home a win for their team.
Here are my personal wager lines.
Seattle Mariners
Miguel Batista – R + 1 ½ - 145 + 125 O 10 ½
Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim
Dustin Moseley – R - 1 ½ + 155 - 145 U 10 ½
Even though Moseley and Batista appear to be carbon copies of each other, I do believe that Moseley will go off the favorite in this game. He has to. The Angels are at home and Batista isn’t that much better, if at all better, then Moseley.
I’m not even going to think about it any longer. With both of these guys deciding to give up “touchdowns” in the games that they have pitched in this season, there’s no reason to fight it. The BetUS over looks about as solid as any wager I can think of.
I doubt that the BetUS over will be at 10 ½. I’m thinking that we might get either 8 ½ or 9 ½ in this game. To me the over is a great wager at 10 ½ or less. So, I’d be ecstatic to see either 8 ½ or 9 ½ on the BetUS site come late Saturday night or early Sunday morning.
The Mariners can score some runs. The Angels are expected to score runs. This should be one of those slug-fests on where the final score ends up 8 to 5 or so.
The BetUS over should be a super solid wager in this game.
If the BetUS over/under is 10 ½ or less in this game, then my money will be on the over.
