Baseball Betting: Rockies Roll Into World Series
By BetUS Staff
If you baseball betting had a feeling about the Colorado Rockies earlier in the season and you didn’t place a wager on them to win the World Series you’re probably kicking yourself right now – Todd Helton and company are now just four wins away from taking home the title, and they’ve been a big story over the past few months for those doing MLB betting.
When we did a World Series futures roundup just prior to the All-Star Break the top teams on the list were the Boston Red Sox, New York Mets, and Los Angeles Angels, who were pegged at +300, +400, and +575 title odds, respectively (the Cleveland Indians were at +800 odds). And where were the Rockies on the World Series list then?
Way back at +5000 odds. Colorado wasn’t even listed in the top half of National League teams on that prop bet – their championship odds were behind not only the Mets but also the Milwaukee Brewers, Chicago Cubs, San Diego Padres, Arizona Diamondbacks, Los Angeles Dodgers, Atlanta Braves, and Philadelphia Phillies as well.
Flash forward one month and the Red Sox are still atop the World Series odds list at +300, with the Tigers at +400, the Angels at +500, the Cubs at +550, and both the Yankees and Mets at +600 (the Indians were still at +800). Colorado, though, still wasn’t getting much respect from either the oddsmakers or MLB bettors – the Rockies’ line improved only slightly to +4000, and they still trailed eight other National League teams.
Heading into September Colorado’s chances of making the playoffs were looking better – but they were still a couple weeks away from embarking on their torrid stretch. The Red Sox were once against the leaders on those World Series MLB lines at +300, with the Yankees up to +500, the Angels and Mets at +650, and the Indians pegged at +750.
And the Rockies? They were listed at +2300 World Series odds on August 31, a marked improvement from +4000 but still behind many fellow NL teams. Not only were the Mets, Cubs, Diamondbacks, Braves, Phillies, Padres, Brewers, and Dodgers still ahead of Colorado on the list, but the St. Louis Cardinals had also crept up to a mere +1800 odds.
Now, of course, Colorado is looking like a great bet to win the 2007 World Series. The Rockies have only lost once since September 15 (falling 4-2 to Brandon Webb and the Diamondbacks in the opener of their season-ending set), with that stretch including a win in the play-in game and sweeps of both the Phillies and the D-Backs in their series.
The Rockies’ last obstacle will be the American League champion, who had yet to be determined at press time (although the Indians were poised to knock out the Red Sox). The Junior Circuit did pick up yet another win in the All-Star Game over the summer, so they’ll have home-field advantage in the seven-game World Series. However, Colorado has found a way to win pretty much anywhere since they got on a roll during September.
Here is the complete World Series schedule, with Colorado’s opponent to be decided:
